About the role

This role is seeking female support workers to work with an individual on a 1:1 support ratio. The individual requiring support has a mental health diagnosis, autism, generalised anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and an eating disorder which poses a significant risk to requiring PEG feeding in the future. They also are currently using a wheelchair for mobility due to an accident they are currently recovering from.

Communication is key to effective support, and this individual uses a variety of communication tools depending upon how they feel and present, these include verbal communication, Proloquo2go and Makaton. When upset, they need individuals supporting them who can balance their own emotions and help them to regulate theirs. They need support navigating social situations/conversations as don’t always understand sarcasm or if they are being rude . It’s important to them that they are supported to learn when they interpret a situation differently to that intended, so that people don’t mock/laugh at them.

The person you will be supporting is living in their own home in West Moors, Dorset. They are wanting their support to be active and to engage in activities with them, making them more fun, as opposed to being a spectator. Activities include walks, outdoor activities, swimming and badminton. When indoors and not out and about, team members will be expected to Join in with crafting or playing games.

Animals are very important to the person being supported. They have a dog, a parrot and rats, therefore you need to be ok with animals and be able to share their interest in animals with them.

Company Overview

PBS4 provides support to enable people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour to have independent lives and to live in their own home.
