Baker / Pastry Chef

Full-time | Floriditas – Wellington

Floriditas is an iconic Wellington institution — a grand café built on consistency, professionalism, and calm excellence. We’re a high-volume, well-run kitchen that values systems, teamwork, and people who take pride in doing things properly.

We’re looking for a full-time Baker / Pastry Chef to take ownership of our bakery and dessert production.

The Role

This role is responsible for:

  • All counter food items at Floriditas
  • The majority of dessert preparation for service
  • Working on a rotating menu, developed collaboratively with our senior kitchen team
  • You’ll work primarily from our production and prep kitchen on Swan Lane, with occasional support shifts in the Floriditas service kitchen when required.
  • You’ll report directly to the Head Chef – Floriditas and work closely with Julie Clark on menu development and planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce all counter food items to agreed recipes, specifications, and par levels
  • Prepare and maintain dessert components for service
  • Maintain clean, organised, and food-safe bakery and prep kitchen spaces
  • Take responsibility for bakery equipment use, care, and maintenance
  • Communicate clearly around recipe changes, prep needs, and equipment requirements
  • Participate in weekly or fortnightly planning meetings
  • Support the wider kitchen team as needed — this role is part of the BOH team, not a silo

  • Proven experience as a baker and/or pastry chef in a professional kitchen
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Confidence working with production volumes and structured systems
  • Clear communication and a collaborative mindset
  • Pride in cleanliness, consistency, and preparation
