About the Role

We’re seeking a dynamic and hands-on Program Manager to lead operations, campus management, and program delivery for Outward Bound’s ACT region.

As part of our leadership team, you’ll oversee the smooth running of programs, support staff development, strengthen campus systems, and ensure high standards of safety, quality, and participant experience.

This is a key role at an exciting time — our Tharwa Campus is undergoing a major transformation to become a national hub for outdoor education and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee program operations and delivery for Tharwa Campus and the ACT region.
  • Manage day-to-day campus operations, including facilities, catering, and grounds.
  • Lead and support staff teams, including Program Coordinators, catering, and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, risk, and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate across departments on program design, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Support client relationships, site tours, and venue hire management.
  • Coordinate events and training activities hosted at Tharwa Campus.
  • Contribute to strategic projects and innovation in program development in the ACT region.

About You

You’re a capable and collaborative leader who thrives in dynamic, people-focused environments. You enjoy variety — from strategic planning to hands-on campus work — and you care deeply about safety, quality, and positive impact.

You’ll Bring:

  • Experience in program or operations management — ideally in outdoor education, recreation, or similar environments.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong administrative, project management, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with risk, safety and compliance systems.
  • Practical knowledge of facilities or campus operations (advantageous).
  • A collaborative mindset, commitment to improvement, and passion for learning.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Current Working with Children Check (ACT)
  • First Aid & CPR certification
  • Manual Driver’s Licence (Light Rigid preferred or willingness to obtain)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualifications in Outdoor Leadership, Business Administration, Environmental Sustainability or Project Management
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or ability to gain within 3 months)
  • Wilderness First Aid
