About the Role
Opera Australia is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance team on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, this role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely financial information and supporting sound financial decision-making across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage month-end financial processes including Box Office journals, revenue deferrals, reconciliations and royalty calculations
• Record and reconcile miscellaneous income across multiple revenue streams
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, journals and variance analysis against forecast
• Deliver management reporting, financial analysis and support monthly forecasting in partnership with department heads
• Account for technical manufacturing costs, labour and project charges
• Support audits, statutory financial statements and tax compliance (BAS, FBT, withholding tax, AASB 16)
• Manage payroll, leave entitlement and other on-cost journals and complete ABS surveys
• Contribute to finance projects, process improvements and internal controls
About You
• Tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related field
• CA or CPA qualification (or working towards)
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar financial accounting role
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate financial information
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines
• Confident interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Intermediate Excel capability
Experience in the arts, not-for-profit or cultural sector is highly regarded but not essential.
