Design @ Open
At Open, we exist because we believe that insurance does not have to be so complicated or confusing. The Product Design team is responsible for delivering world class customer experiences and enabling Open’s expansion of products. This is central to our strategy to deliver delightful insurance experiences, at the best price, for customers everywhere.
About the role
Open is building insurance products and experiences that didn’t exist five years ago. We are looking for a designer who is excited to not just imagine what these are, but also bring them to life by shipping them. As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll work in a lean, AI-native model where design moves at pace. You won’t be waiting for briefs or handing off specs – you’ll be hands on with the product, making changes, running experiments, and seeing your work live with real customers.
This is a hands-on, high-output role. You’ll use AI and low-code tooling to compress the gap between idea and implementation, and you’ll be as comfortable pushing a component update as you are rethinking the experience from scratch.
The role will work closely with technical leaders across Open’s commercial, product, engineering and compliance teams to drive exponential growth and sustain industry-leading NPS.
What you’ll actually do

Ship what you discover: Own your scope end-to-end, from spotting the opportunity to deploying the improvement. Your measure of success is live changes that have an impact, not ideas in slides, Figma and prototypes.

Obsess over quality: Quality matters to you. You notice it when something’s off like a jarring transition, an inconsistent pattern, and take ownership in fixing it. You champion coherence across channels and products, uplifting journeys together rather than patching them one by one.

Build and iterate in the product: Use AI-assisted design tools, low-code environments, and direct collaboration with engineers to drive impact fast.

Own the design system: Write documentation, update patterns, proactively uplift inconsistencies and embed AI without being asked.

Prototype at fidelity: Build prototypes close enough to production that engineers can use them as a direct reference, using tools like Framer or Cursor to close the gap further.

Master storytelling: Help the product team, Open, and our partners understand the best ways for customers to interact with their insurance
The role will report to the GM of Product Design, based in London, but will work closely with the Chief Product Officer, product managers and other designers to support autonomy on day-to-day work.
What you’ll bring
- 5+ years experience as a product designer working with web and mobile applications
- A proven breadth and depth of design skills across discovery through to delivery
- Extensive collaborative experience working with cross-functional teams across product, compliance, commercial, engineering and data
- Strong written communications and storyline development for the purpose of business development and proposition innovation
- Strong facilitation skills for the purpose of creating alignment towards an outcome
- A demonstrated experience in the creation of scalable design system
