Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to our Common Law Personal Injury team in all aspects of legal proceedings. The Paralegal will work closely with lawyers, clients, and other legal professionals to ensure that all legal matters are handled efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • File Management: Assist in managing common law files from commencement to resolution, ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
  • Document Preparation: Draft correspondence, Court documents (SOC, Defences, PFS, ARDs), and client statements.
  • Evidence Gathering: Collate and review medical evidence, liability material, expert reports, and financial documents.
  • Court & Tribunal Support: Assist with preparing briefs for hearing, mediation, and settlement conferences in the District Court and PIC.
  • Client Communication: Liaise with clients regularly, providing updates and obtaining instructions with professionalism and empathy.
  • Lawyer Support: Work collaboratively with lawyers to prepare for conferences, mediations, hearings, and settlements.
  • Administration: Manage tasks such as medical chronologies, disbursement requests, and settlement take-out calculations.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience as a paralegal in Common Law personal injury matters (CTP, Public Liability, Occupiers’ Liability, WID).
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017 (NSW), Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW), Workers Compensation Act 1987 (NSW), Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998 and the Workers Compensation Act 1987, and relevant Court/PIC procedures.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent drafting and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple files independently and prioritise competing deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with legal practice management systems (LEAP preferred) and Microsoft Office.
