We are committed to supporting individuals affected by alcohol and other drug misuse, providing them with pathways to recovery through holistic and culturally appropriate rehabilitation programs.

About the Role

The Local Justice Worker (LJW) delivers the Local Justice Worker Program (LYJWP) in the Southern and Bayside Metropolitan region, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults who are involved in, or at risk of ongoing contact with, the justice system.

The role provides culturally safe, strengths-based, and trauma-informed case management to support participants to comply with Community Corrections Orders, resolve fines and warrants, understand justice system obligations, and reconnect with culture, community, and supports. The position is grounded in Aboriginal self-determination and aligns with the Aboriginal Justice Agreement Phase 4 (Burra Lotjpa Dunguludja).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the LJWP in accordance with the Koori Justice and Diversion Program
  • Support Aboriginal Youth by:
  • – Successfully complete Community Corrections Orders (CCOs)
  • – Resolve outstanding fines and warrants
  • – Understand justice systems, processes, and obligations
  • – Provide culturally informed justice education and advocacy.
  • Deliver holistic, client-centred case management that addresses underlying drivers of justice involvement.
  • Develop and review individual support plans in collaboration with clients, families, and stakeholders.
  • Be available to take up additional responsibility as directed by Executive Team
  • Attend and participate in internal and external meetings.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with Aboriginal people and/or individuals facing Alcohol & Other Drug issues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and commitment to the Aboriginal community
  • Ability to provide leadership and line management supervision to a team of specialist workers
  • Demonstrated skills in case management
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi skilled team
  • Skills in working independently, with initiative and as a team member
  • Confident in driving a large vehicle.
  • Able to work independently with multiple clients when necessary.
  • High level computer literacy skills

Mandatory Requirements

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Community Services
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License
  • National Police Certificate (no older than 3 months).
  • Victorian Employment Working with Children Check
