progressive Aboriginal Corporation that provides support to Aboriginal Communities of the Western Desert. In particular, NWWARAC aims to deliver high quality services that meet the needs of these communities by supporting the transition of government services and programs to community control.
POSITION OVERVIEW – JUSTICE REINVESTMENT COORDINATOR
The focus of this role is to ensure the experiences, expertise and aspirations of First Nations community members and young people in the remote communities, are at the centre of all engagement work in the justice reinvestment initiative, particularly in respect of implementing positive activities and development of community-driven justice reinvestment strategic plans.
ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Ngurratjuta Wanka Willuratjta/Alturla Rinya Aboriginal Corporation was incorporated in 2023 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation (NPNAC). NPNAC was incorporated in August 1985 under the Aboriginal Incorporations Act 1976 (Cth) before transitioning under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth). NPNAC began as an association of communities deemed to have been affected by the oil and gas mining operations at Mereenie and Palm Valley. NPNAC provided a growing income base for the Member Communities, stimulating job opportunities and venture activities for members, while actively supporting community development activities and infrastructure improvements in Member Communities. Across its 40 year history, Ngurratjuta has developed a portfolio of diverse investments and operated enterprises in a variety of industries, including accounting and business services, tourism and hospitality and retail. NPNAC’s core objective of supporting communities flows through to objectives of NWWAR being the delivery of high quality services and support for communities in transitioning services from government-designed and delivered to community-controlled and governed.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for a self-motivated person with a passion for the topic of Justice Reinvestment and who wants to be part of the team working towards local community-led change.
The incumbent will be required to perform responsibilities to a high standard, within agreed timelines and in line with the visions, missions, and values of the organization.
REPORTS TO: Services Manager
LOCATION: This role is based in one of our remote communities (Papunya, Mount Liebig, Haasts Bluff or Kintore) and will require travel to/from Alice Springs.
WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Justice Reinvestment Coordinator will apply his/her experience and understanding of Justice Reinvestment principles to:
- Create strong, trusted relationships with the local community members and key stakeholders.
- Support local community members and key stakeholders to better understand community-led justice reinvestment.
- Facilitate activities, training and programs, including engagement of third-party providers, to provide positive outlets and engagement for community members.
- Engage and support partnerships in the three communities with key community groups and stakeholders.
- Work with the General Manager, Service Delivery to plan and implement community engagement strategies, and coordinating the development, implementation and evaluation of community justice reinvestment strategic plans. This may include creating and distributing communications materials.
- Meet the associated compliance requirements with Justice Reinvestment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
You will have an understanding that the administrative element of the job is crucial, and you’ll also have:
Essential Criteria:
- Knowledge and respect for the cultural and social needs of First Nations people.
- Experience working with and alongside First Nations communities creating strong, trusted relationships.
- Demonstrated understanding of the justice system, its impacts on the communities and the need for community-led justice reinvestment initiatives.
- Experience planning and implementing effective and culturally appropriate community engagement strategies and support the cultural practices in dealing with community members and staff.
- A commitment to First Nations self-determination, community leadership and empowerment.
Additionally, you will have:
- Experience living in, engaging and working with remote Aboriginal communities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal (verbal and written).
- Project Management, Organisation and time management skills, including the ability to manage varied and conflicting demands to agreed standards and timelines.
- Ability to work independently as well as a part of the team.
- Self-motivation with a capability to generate and execute ideas.
- Demonstrated commitment to the effective implementation of Workplace Health & Safety and ethical and diversity practices in the workplace.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Data Management and experience in record keeping procedures.
