Are you a construction student looking to kickstart a career building, maintaining, refurbishing and remediating projects across South Australia? Want a structured training program that will show you the ropes and set you up for success in Estimating, Construction Administration and through to Project Management?
Well… we just happen to be on the lookout for our next Undergraduate or Graduate.
It’s a busy time in construction, but we understand the importance of hiring our future leaders and training them from the ground up. We’re looking for those with a keen interest in construction with a decent understanding of costing and number crunching. You’ll bring attention to detail and passion for learning, we’ll provide responsibility and opportunity to grow, with plenty of team banter along the way.
About the role
Joining our team of graduates, you’ll be amongst likeminded peers providing support to our Estimating and Construction teams.
We’re a flexible builder who undertakes a wide range of projects, and your journey will provide exposure across our departments. You’ll start by assisting the Estimating team in bid preparation, then over to our Contract Administration team getting our new projects off the ground. Once you’ve nailed helping others, you’ll then start tendering your own jobs as a Graduate Estimator, before finally running your own jobs as a Project Administrator.
Reporting to Jayden, our charismatic and knowledgeable (okay I’m writing this) Estimating Manager, you’ll work part-time or full-time hours depending on your study commitments. You’ll have a laptop, but work mostly from our office in Klemzig – free parking just northeast of the CBD.
We’ll keep you constantly learning new things, but here’s some of what you’ll get up to:
Assisting Estimators to prepare tenders such as printing and measuring plans, and contacting subcontractors.
Attending tender briefings and site visits on Mykra construction projects.
Completing supportive tasks such as CITB payments, arranging project insurances, inputting project budgets and documentation into construction software.
Compiling variations and subcontracts.
Reading and interpreting plans, creating scopes of work, and procuring trades.
Processing invoices and forecasting project costs.
You’ll have a set of responsibilities to keep you busy and work with our teams on providing ongoing support, where no two days will be alike.
Here are 6 things we think will make you ideal for this role:
Ideally last year of study, or previously graduated. We don’t have a strict minimum requirement, although we do prefer those that can transition to full-time work sooner than others.
Literacy, numeracy and computer skills.
Genuine work ethic to “get things done” andput in discretionary effort, even when no-one’s watching.
Enthusiasm and positivity with a can-do attitude.
Team player because we succeed together.
Curiosity and ability to problem solve.
Here are 3 reasons why we hope you’ll love working for us:
Feel valued and valuable. You’ll develop your skills fast and be dealing directly with subcontractors and clients early in your career, where you’ll be not just a small cog but rather a key player in a team working across our wide range of projects. Your salary will grow along with you.
Enjoy varied work. One day you’ll be pricing to fix a fence for a council, next you’re arranging the carving of a new stone finial for a heritage façade, then working to build a new 800m2 sportsclub, and everything in between.
Industry leading culture. We really care about our people, their success inside and outside of work. We are constantly finding new ways to strengthen and improve our culture from our Social Club, to knock-off drinks or personal finance and health insurance consulting.
And here are 3 reasons why we’re afraid you might not:
Whilst we do a wide variety of work, we don’t build skyscrapers in the CBD. If you dream of high-rise construction, that’s not us and we’re not meant to be.
Construction is not manufacturing; things don’t always go to plan are we have to problem solve our way out of it. If you don’t think you can handle pressure and conflict resolution this isn’t the correct role for you.
We rely on trust and independence, we’re not into micro-management or handholding. If you find it hard to work without pressure or ongoing direction, we’re probably not the best choice for you.
