Apprentice & Trainee Field Officer
Full-time | Competitive Salary + Vehicle Allowance
Who We Are
Muru Mittigar is a respected Dharug-led social enterprise dedicated to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through employment, training, and cultural connection. For more than 25 years, we’ve delivered programs that create real pathways, strengthen communities, and care for Country.
In 2025, we proudly launched our Group Training Organisation (GTO), Muru Mittigar Employment Services, a major step forward in our purpose to create sustainable career opportunities for Aboriginal people across Western Sydney and regional NSW.
This is more than a job. It is a rare opportunity to help build something new, meaningful, and long-lasting. You’ll be part of shaping a GTO from the ground up, helping design and grow a program that is already creating real employment and training outcomes.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, capable, and motivated Field Officer to join our newly established GTO team. Working closely with the GTO Manager, you’ll play an integral role in both the operational delivery and ongoing growth of this new initiative.
This is a hands-on role that combines apprentice and trainee support, host employer management, compliance monitoring, reporting, recruitment support, and day-to-day problem solving. The right person will be caring and people-focused, but also organised, confident with technology, and able to work independently with a high level of accountability.
You’ll manage a portfolio of Aboriginal apprentices and trainees, ensuring they are supported, safe, and progressing toward completion, while also helping to grow our host employer network and strengthen Muru Mittigar’s presence across the region.
This role will suit someone who can balance people support with strong administration, systems use, compliance, and follow-through. You will need to be confident using Microsoft Office, maintaining accurate records, preparing clear updates, using online systems and apps, and learning new platforms quickly. We are looking for someone who can take ownership, manage competing priorities, solve problems early, and keep the GTO operating smoothly when the GTO Manager is unavailable.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular workplace visits to support, guide, and mentor apprentices and trainees.
- Maintain accurate records of site visits, apprentice/trainee contact, host employer updates, WHS checks, training progress, and follow-up actions.
- Work closely with the GTO Manager to develop systems, reporting frameworks, operational processes, and growth strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with host employers, training providers, community partners, apprentices, trainees, and families where appropriate.
- Lead and support recruitment of new apprentices and trainees, including screening, placement suitability, onboarding, and host employer coordination.
- Monitor apprentice and trainee progress, attendance, workplace performance, wellbeing, training progression, and completion risks.
- Liaise with Registered Training Organisations to track training plans, attendance, progression, catch-up requirements, and completion outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with training contracts, WHS standards, host employer obligations, supervision requirements, and employment responsibilities.
- Identify workplace, training, wellbeing, compliance, or performance issues early and work with the GTO Manager to resolve them appropriately.
- Identify and pursue new host employer and business development opportunities.
- Represent Muru Mittigar professionally at industry, community, education, and employment events.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, audit readiness, and the professional reputation of Muru Mittigar Employment Services.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years’ experience supporting apprentices, trainees, young people, employees, or participants within a Group Training Organisation, Registered Training Organisation, employment services, youth work, community services, HR, WHS, or similar environment.
- In-depth understanding of apprenticeship and traineeship frameworks, training contracts, employment obligations, compliance requirements, or a demonstrated ability to learn these quickly.
- Strong computer literacy, including confident use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, online forms, databases, and workplace apps.
- Ability to learn new systems quickly and troubleshoot basic technology or process issues independently.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in record keeping, compliance documentation, reporting, and follow-up.
- High level of initiative, personal accountability, and ability to work without close supervision.
- Ability to manage competing priorities across site visits, apprentice support, host employer communication, RTO liaison, recruitment, and administration.
- Confidence to make sound decisions, escalate serious matters appropriately, and keep work moving when the GTO Manager is unavailable.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks, patterns, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Proven ability to mentor and support people from diverse backgrounds in a respectful, strengths-based way.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear written updates and professional reports.
- Demonstrated experience in business development, employer relationship management, or partnership building.
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to worksites.
- Current Working With Children Check, or ability to obtain.
- A genuine commitment to Aboriginal employment, education, training, and community development.
You’ll Be Successful in This Role If You Are
- Caring and approachable, but also organised, reliable, and outcome-focused.
- Confident using technology, systems, spreadsheets, documents, online forms, and workplace apps.
- Able to work independently, manage your own schedule, and follow tasks through without constant direction.
- Comfortable with compliance, reporting, record keeping, and documentation.
- Able to think ahead, identify issues early, and solve problems before they escalate.
- Confident representing Muru Mittigar with host employers, RTOs, apprentices, trainees, families, and community partners.
- Capable of keeping field operations running smoothly if the GTO Manager is away.
