Job Overview:
Employment Support Mentor will support individuals with disabilities in achieving greater independence and meaningful participation in the workforce. This role combines practical, person-centred mentoring with a focus on skill development, workplace integration, and daily living support.
Working within a values-driven, not-for-profit environment, the mentor collaborates closely with supported employees (PWD), operational teams, and stakeholders to deliver tailored support aligned with NDIS goals and Westcare’s production requirements.
Alongside a heavy focus on the production of the business operations, the mentor will provide workplace training to the supported employees to maintain a smooth workflow.

Key Responsibilities of this role include but not limited to
The Support Mentor’s role is variable dependent upon the participants needs, goals and aspirations but may include:
- Provide tailored training, support, guidance and opportunities that enable supported PWD to achieve their individual work goals and Westcare’s production output.
- Interact harmoniously with peers and production staff
- Comply with the requirements of NDIS, DSS, Westcare, Mosaic stakeholders (including guardians of our supported employees/people with disabilities (PWD)/NDIS participants) and other relevant Laws, Acts and Standards.
- Provide one-on-one support, as funded.
- Provide support to PWD who are exhibiting behaviours of concern. Complete case notes and liaise with the Support Services team as necessary.
- Provide Employment Support Officers (ESO) with any relevant information for meetings with our supported PWD, guardians and OT to ensure we meet NDIS, DSS and Westcare’s requirements.
- Uphold organisation’s Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy, NDIS Code of Conduct, follow organisational policies and procedures at all times
- Maintain up to date mandatory training and compliance requirements
- Foster a harmonious workplace and support social engagement activities. This includes assisting with morning teas, annual events.
- Assist to comply with WHS requirements.
- Undertake training necessary to fulfil your role.
- Read documents relevant to all PWD Westcare supports at their site, e.g. ISPs, Behaviour Support Plans and Functional Capacity Assessments.
- Assist and work alongside supported employees with learning employment skills as per the site’s needs as directed by the line manager &/or ESOs.
- Support workflow of everyday business whilst independently supervising the supported employees.
- Other duties as directed.
To be successful in this position you will have –
- Cert III or Cert IV in Disability and Individual Support or equivalent from an Australia accredited training organisation
- Knowledge of National Disability Standards
- Demonstrable knowledge of work health and safety.
- Proven ability to work unsupervised with sound time management skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft applications, i.e., Teams, Outlook (emails, calendar), OneDrive, Word, Excel, etc.
- Ability to record and maintain accurate, non-judgmental information.
Desirable
- A minimum of 2-3 years of disability support experience
- Experience working in a production environment or an Australian Disability Enterprise
- Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme
- Demonstrable knowledge of the principles of social role valorization, the rights of PWD, consumer rights, duty of care, dignity of risk, and the requirements of the National Disability Standards and the Disability Services Act
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment
