The role

The Data Engineer is accountable for delivering end‑to‑end data initiatives, balancing speed to service and governance, and will work with the wider team to advance More’s data roadmap.

In our environment centred around Microsoft Fabric, the role owns data products and pipelines across OneLake, ensures secure handling of sensitive data, and partners with business leaders to translate data into robust, scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, the Data Engineer will:

  • Facilitate scoping and estimation, set clear milestones, provide concise progress updates to sponsors and the Head of Data & Analytics, and make pragmatic recommendations when constraints arise.
  • Define acceptance criteria and ROI and maintain a simple backlog with delivery forecasts aligned to our capacity and critical business periods.
  • Implement robust pipelines for sources like SFTP/Dynamics CRM using Fabric Data Pipelines/Notebooks and (where appropriate) Azure Logic Apps.
  • Ensure data quality & reliability by defining DQ checks, implement observability, track lineage, and maintain SLAs for data products consumed by the wider team.
  • Ensure all work completed aligns with ISO 27001 and the Australian Privacy Act obligations.
  • Collaborate with IT Operations and Cyber Security for policy enforcement and audit readiness.
  • Produce clear solution documentation, data dictionaries, and runbooks.
  • Contribute to coding standards and templates and promote data literacy across teams.
  • Own incident response and root‑cause analysis and deliver fixes and preventive improvement.
  • Collaborate with external partners, validating configurations, connection artifacts, and deployment steps. Whilst ensuring handovers and ownership are correctly transferred to internal teams.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years in data engineering or adjacent roles
  • Proven delivery of end‑to‑end initiatives in a lean team with strong stakeholder management and clear communications.
  • Demonstrated application of security & governance (data masking, role‑based access, privacy compliance, backup/restore, audit).

Experience with;

  • Microsoft Fabric experience (Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake, Data Pipelines, Notebooks, Dataflows Gen2)
  • PySpark and SQL for batch/near‑real‑time processing
  • medallion architecture and Delta/Parquet formats
  • Azure services and environment promotion.
  • building metadata‑driven pipelines and robust connection management.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement
  • Data modeling for analytics/operations; pragmatic design aligned to reporting and self‑service needs.
  • High attention to detail with a bias for automation and reliability
  • Ownership mindset – being proactive, accountable, adaptable
  • Thrives in a high‑performance, small‑team environment.

Nice to have

  • Power BI (Direct Lake, semantic models) performance practices.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365/CRM sources and commercial/billing data domains.
