The Role – 12 Month Fixed Term Maternity Leave Cover (West Perth)

We are seeking a dedicated Paralegal to join our team in West Perth on a contract basis. The successful candidate will responsible for providing timely and effective paralegal support to the Principal and Legal Counsel and to assist in the provision of a high quality and consistent legal service to MDA Members by the MDA Law Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and analyse legal issues as requested by the Principal and Lawyers to support innovative approaches to the provision of legal advice.
  • Provide accurate and timely administrative support as required by Principal and Lawyers that includes preparing necessary legal documentation and correspondence for trials, hearings and meetings.
  • Accurately record billable time and log this into accounting system.
  • Organise and accurately maintain documents in an electronic filing system while ensuring the secure management of sensitive client data and adherence to privacy regulations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant tribunals and courts to support matter progression and procedural compliance that supports Legal resolution.
  • Develop and maintain a level of knowledge of applicable legislation, court and tribunal procedures relevant to MDA National Members and the company.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Legal qualifications not required, but strong understanding of legal processes is essential.
  • At least 5 years experience in the legal industry as a Paralegal or Legal assistant.
  • Proficient in professional indemnity.
  • High level of proficiency and accuracy in preparing legal documents & correspondence for Legal counsel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, NetSuite & iManage systems highly desirable.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, approaching challenges with a positive mindset and strong work ethic. 
  • Ability to adapt, embrace change and continuously develop new skills to support organisational growth. 
  • Excellent time management & workflow prioritisation to consistently meet deadlines. 
  • Collaborative and effective communicator, building & maintaining strong relationships with teams and stakeholders across the organisation. 
  • Demonstrates accountability, embraces feedback and navigates challenges thoughtfully & constructively.
