The Role
Based out of our Sydney Office – Please Only Apply If You Currently Live In Sydney. This is not a remote role.
A Bachelor’s degree in law is required to be considered for this role
This Case Manager role is responsible for the management of Medical Claims and Investigations, ensuring claims are handled fairly, transparently, and efficiently to achieve appropriate outcomes for insured doctors and MDA National. The role is accountable for the end-to-end technical management of the claims lifecycle, from notification through to resolution, including governance of decision-making, cost management, and legal strategy.
A Case Manager plays a critical role in supporting insured doctors through complex and high-stress events, ensuring they are appropriately guided and supported while effective legal and claims strategies are put in place to achieve fair and timely outcomes.
Key Deliverables and Responsibilities
- Proactively manage new and existing claims in a timely, cost-effective, and efficient manner, with a focus on achieving appropriate outcomes for insured doctors and MDA National.
- Provide clear guidance and leadership throughout the claims process, ensuring Members are informed and supported at each stage.
- Manage case strategy and file progression, including coordination of legal and expert support to ensure matters are handled appropriately.
- Support risk management through advice and education, assisting insured doctors to understand medico-legal risks and reduce future exposure.
- Select, manage, and oversee legal and expert panels, ensuring appropriate expertise, quality advice, and effective cost management.
- Coordinate across Claims, Advisory, and Education services, ensuring consistent positions and informed decision-making.
- Participate in governance and review processes, including relevant committees, to support fair,
- defensible, and consistent outcomes.
- Provide advice on file management and documentation requirements, supporting compliance and audit standards.
- Prepare reports and materials required for internal and external oversight, including reinsurers and governance forums.
- Provide after-hours emergency support, where required, for urgent medico-legal matters.
Skills & Experience
- At least 5 years professional experiencee in a claims management or a medico-legal role.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Financial Services and Insurance, with medical indemnity experience preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Insurance law and regulation, APRA & ASIC.
- Ability to clearly articulate and communicate complex issues and data to stakeholders at all levels.
- Expert claims and cause analysis skills.
Formal Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in law.
