The Opportunity
At McInnes Wilson Lawyers, we pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative and innovative environment where our employees can thrive. We have been recognised by the AFR as a Top 30 Fastest Growing Firm with our growth and national network, which highlights our expansion; it’s an exciting time.
We have a wonderful opportunity for a graduate or newly admitted lawyer (up to 1 year’s PAE) to join our Employment and Industrial Relations team.
Based in our Sydney office, located a stone’s throw from Hyde Park, you will join a professional, collaborative workplace with opportunities to build your capability, expand your network and contribute to meaningful work from the outset. The team is growing, which means you will have a unique opportunity to jump in during that stage of growth, giving you more access to a range of work that may not be available elsewhere.
We are tempted to tell you how ‘dynamic’ and ‘fast paced’ the work will be, or how you would be working for a large number of top tier government and ASX listed clients, all within a supporting environment in which you’ll have the opportunity to develop into the best lawyer you can be, to take your career to the next level. While that’s all true, it’s starting to read a bit like every other job ad, isn’t it?
At McInnes Wilson, our focus is on hiring the right people. This is an early career role, so we don’t expect you to have years of legal experience. Our expertise is clear in the fact that we are one of the firms appointed to every category of the Whole of Australia Government Legal Panel, and we are approaching 50 years as a firm. If you are the right fit, we can teach you about employment law and industrial relations and provide the experience for you to learn. We’ll also provide access to incredible opportunities for client relationship management and an interesting cross-section of work involving not just workers compensation (litigation and advice) but also associated employment and scheme related matters as well.
What we need is a team player, who is keen to go the extra mile, with a genuine interest in employment law and industrial relations.
The core responsibilities of this role include:
- Managing and assisting in litigated matters predominantly in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Fair Work Commission including attending and participating in preliminary and conciliation conferences as well as Directions Hearings;
- Advisory work regarding employment and industrial relations, and administrative law and government decision making;
- Client relationship management; and
- Assisting in marketing and business development activities.
Our team works across Australia and are a close-knit and genuinely collegiate team. We value pride in our work, client service and career-driven team members. We also place a great deal of emphasis on mentoring and training.
