Master Builders is the peak industry association representing building and construction in Queensland since 1882. With over 10,000 members we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR/IR and Safety professional to join our team. 

 

As a senior leader in the business, you’ll lead our Workplace Relations and Safety teams, leveraging your hands-on experience and deep understanding of the national and state workplace relations framework and state workplace health and safety laws. With our teams handling up to 6,000 member calls annually, your expertise as a subject matter expert will be key in shaping and driving our policy agenda within the evolving industrial landscape.

What your new role will entail:

  • Formulating, communicating and overseeing the implementation of Master Builders strategy and policies within your scope.
  • Providing coaching and support to our Workplace Relations and Safety team (5 FTE), driving the development of a high-performance, well engaged team.
  • Development of business unit plans to deliver new workplace relations/safety initiatives, products, and services for the industry.
  • Utilising our CRM and industry experience to identify topics for member education and training opportunities.
  • Drafting policy submissions and correspondence to government and industry stakeholders regarding legislative changes.
  • Representing the association on committees and working parties to promote its interests and influence policy decisions.
  • Convene our Workplace Health and Safety and Industrial Relations subcommittees.
  • Act as a point of escalation for member enquiries.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications (Law, Human Resources, Workplace Health and Safety, Business, Commerce or similar).
  • Sound knowledge of our national and state workplace relations framework and state health and safety legislation.
  • Demonstrated industrial relations and safety experience, ideally gained within the construction industry.
  • Proven policy and advocacy experience.
  • Proven capability to operate both strategically and operationally.
  • Experience leading and developing an engaged and high performing team.
  • Ability to distil complex legislative requirements in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience.
