About The Role:

The New Horizons Program provides early intervention, counselling and clinical outreach support to families with children and young people (0-18 years) who are showing early signs of mental health concerns or are at risk of developing such.

In this role you will engage with vulnerable families via a psycho-social assessment process and tailored intervention planning, with a focus on improving children’s and young people’s mental health and wellbeing outcomes.

 

Our service is designed to successfully foster and maintain clients’ engagement via home visits, school or community-based sessions, outreach counselling and support, psychoeducation group work, telehealth and effective referral pathways.

New Horizons practice is grounded in attachment and family systems theory. Our interventions are child-centred and family-focused. They are brought to life by a range of evidence-based modalities, each counsellor’s individual style and areas of expertise and practice interest.

About You:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (including eligibility for membership of Australian Association of Social Workers), or a Psychology or Counselling Degree. Preference for registration with AHPRA, ACA or PACFA (level 3 or 4)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lifespan development and impacts of adverse childhood experiences.
  • Experience in providing evidence-based, therapeutic interventions with children, adolescents and their families who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing mental ill health.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working within a child safe framework that is client-centred and family-focused.
  • Excellent relationship building skills to maintain effective stakeholder relationships and contribute to a safe and supportive team culture.

Successful applicants must complete a National Police Check.

You must also hold:

  • A current driver’s licence, and
  • A Working with Vulnerable People Card (ACT) and
  • A Working with Children Check (NSW)
