Business Analyst — Energy Company (Sunshine Coast)
Use your analytics toolkit to sharpen billing accuracy, drop cost-to-serve, and de-risk supply for a growing utility on the Sunshine Coast. You’ll be the analytical engine room partnering with Service Delivery, Billing and Sales, and working closely with our CCO.
Why this role matters
• Turn meter/billing data, contract terms and market signals into clear actions that improve business and customer outcomes.
• Own meaningful slices of our operations and present executive-ready insights that get used, not shelved.
What you’ll work on
• Data & Insight: Take end-to-end ownership of the data pipeline for sites/meters (NMI), usage, tariffs and invoices; build dashboards that surface portfolio health, exceptions and trends.
• Variance analysis: Dig into loss factors, demand charges, network tariffs, meter reads and TOU blocks; recommend corrections that actually move the numbers.
• Process improvement: Map and optimise workflows across site onboarding, meter changes, billing exceptions and supplier interfaces. Put controls in place to prevent billing leakage, duplicate sites, and missed tariff updates.
• Commercial support: Collaborate with the CCO and Finance to solve client issues, reduce cost, and lift revenue for long-term profitability.
• Stakeholder & change: Run weekly triage with Operations/Billing; translate technical findings into crisp actions; create SOPs, playbooks and training that stick.
• Compliance & quality: Establish definitions, lineage and reconciliations; keep us audit-ready without slowing delivery.
What you’ll bring
• Strong SQL and Excel (including Power Query/pivots) and proven experience in Power BI or Tableau.
• Comfort with the Australian energy market plumbing: NMI, MSATS/CATS, B2B transactions, network tariffs, loss factors and TOU.
• Process skills: BPMN/Lean mapping, writing BRDs/user stories, acceptance testing and UAT coordination.
• Communicates clearly, thinks critically, and loves solving tough, ambiguous problems.
Nice to have
• Experience in utilities/retail energy, billing or market operations
• Familiarity with data quality frameworks and automated controls
Perks & culture
• Paid day off every year on your work anniversary
• Discounted electricity plan
• Unlimited access to online learning
• Free access to our employee assistance program (for you and your family)
• Supportive culture where integrity, performance, growth and teamwork are core values
