We are seeking experienced and degree-qualified Maritime Engineers to play a pivotal role in engineering design, integration, and sustainment who have skills in the following disciplines:

  • Weapons / Combat Systems

Experience

Ideally you will have experience in all or some of the below tasks:

  • Lead and oversee complex engineering activities ensuring technical alignment with RAN standards and operational requirements
  • Elicit, define and document technical and operational requirements in collaboration with stakeholders. Ensure requirements are clear, testable, traceable and aligned with Defence capability needs
  • Deliver and review detailed ship and system design artefacts in accordance with classification society and naval engineering standards, including safety and performance constraints
  • Apply industry-recognised systems engineering methodologies for managing system requirements, interfaces, configuration, performance and risk across the engineering lifecycle
  • Develop and execute test and evaluation strategies, plans, and procedures. Support verification and validation activities to ensure systems meet all functional and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to asset management planning, sustainment strategies, obsolescence engineering, and through-life support documentation for naval assets
  • Work closely with Commonwealth representatives, shipbuilders, OEMs and system integrators to ensure project milestones are achieved and engineering risks mitigated
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Defence standards, safety case requirements and engineering assurance frameworks

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • At least 8 years of maritime engineering experience, preferably within Defence or with RAN platforms
  • Demonstrated capability in requirements development, systems design, and test and evaluation on complex programs
  • Strong understanding of the Defence Capability Lifecycle, naval standards and the engineering change process
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • NV1 Defence Clearance
  • Due to the nature of the work and access to controlled technologies, the successful applicant must be eligible to access International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controlled information. This typically requires the applicant to be an Australian citizen or hold the appropriate authorisation to access US export-controlled technology.

Desirable

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligibility for chartership
  • Familiarity with Systems Safety, ILS and technical risk assessments in Defence
