We are seeking an experienced Clinical Intake & Assessment Officer to join our Community Support & Engagement team on a 18 month full-time fixed-term contract. This is a high-impact role ideal for a clinically trained professional who thrives in fast-paced intake, triage and assessment environments.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience in trauma-informed intake, triage and risk assessment. Including the ability to provide sensitive and timely support to clients affected by critical incidents such as the Bondi incident, mental health, domestic and family violence and broader community trauma.

About the role

As the first point of contact for new referrals and enquiries, you will conduct intake and triage assessments across child and family services including mental health, domestic violence, aged care and disability. Using Jewish Care’s clinical triage framework, you will assess presenting issues and risk, coordinate referrals, and ensure clients experience continuity of care and timely access to the right supports.

Demonstrated experience working with and supporting individuals impacted by trauma, with the ability to respond sensitively in the context of critical incidents such as the recent Bondi event.

You will be supported with professional supervision and development while working across diverse client cohorts.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct intake, triage and brief clinical assessments
  • Assess presenting issues, risks and service eligibility
  • Triage clients in and out of services, providing warm referrals
  • Act as an ongoing point of contact for clients during intake
  • Liaise with GPs, NGOs and partner services
  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential client documentation
  • Participate in intake meetings and support service navigation
  • Contribute positively to service improvement and change initiatives

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor or postgraduate qualification in Social Work or Psychology, and Community Welfare
  • Current professional registration
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in intake and/or triage roles
  • Strong communication, organisational and documentation skills
  • Compassionate, client-centred and emotionally intelligent approach
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and mandatory reporting requirement
  • Experience in one or more in mental health, aged care, disability or NDIS services
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and person-centred practice
