Position Title: People & Culture Coordinator (HR)
Employment Type: Fixed Term (0.6–0.8 FTE, negotiable) position dependent on funding from the government.
Term: 12 months with possibility to extend
Salary/Rate: $85,000 – $115,000 p.a. (1.0 FTE) pro rata + 12% superannuation
Location: Lismore Office (flexible working considered)
Reports to: Business Lead
Role Type: Aboriginal targeted. We will preference a suitable Aboriginal candidate. Though we still encourage non-Aboriginal people to apply.

About the Role
The People & Culture Coordinator is a hands-on, operational HR role that supports Jagun Alliance staff and leaders to work well, safely and respectfully together.
The role focuses on day-to-day people processes — recruitment, onboarding, employee support, performance processes, compliance and wellbeing — ensuring systems are practical, culturally safe and aligned with Jagun Alliance policies and values.
This role is not a standalone HR “manager” role. It works closely with the Business Lead and Senior Leadership Team to strengthen people systems as the organisation continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Core HR Operations:
- Coordinate recruitment processes, including advertising, shortlisting, interview coordination and referee checks
- Manage onboarding and offboarding, including contracts, inductions and system access
- Maintain accurate employee records across Employment Hero and related systems
- Support probation, performance review and role change processes
- Coordinate position descriptions and support role clarity across teams
- Employee Support & Workplace Culture
- Act as a first point of contact for staff HR queries, providing clear, respectful advice
- Support performance conversations and issue resolution in line with Jagun Alliance policies
- Support culturally safe, fair and consistent people practices including supporting Leads and Project Coordinators to develop and review workplans for all staff.
- Assist with employee wellbeing initiatives and internal communications related to People & Culture
Policies, Compliance & Systems:
- Support implementation and upkeep of the Employee Handbook and HR policies
- Assist leaders to follow fair and consistent processes for leave, performance, grievances and conduct
- Track key HR compliance items (probation, training, reviews, mandatory checks)
- Support WHS and wellbeing processes in collaboration with relevant leads
- Leadership & Organisational Support
- Provide practical HR advice to Program Leads and Project Coordinators
- Support workforce planning, role design and capacity tracking
- Assist with reporting and documentation for Board or funder requirements as needed
- Contribute to continuous improvement of people systems as the organisation grows
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Experience in an operational HR, people support or coordination role
- Strong understanding of fair work principles and employee lifecycle processes
- High level of discretion and ability to manage sensitive matters respectfully
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with leaders and teams
- Commitment to Jagun Alliance values and ways of working
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and supervising teams.
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities and cultural protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to team wellbeing and communication.
- Familiarity with structured training, development or mentoring programs.
- Current drivers licence
- Working with Children Check (Jagun Alliance can support in obtaining one)
Desirable:
- Experience working in a not-for-profit or Aboriginal-controlled organisation
- Knowledge of Employment Hero or similar HR systems
- Experience supporting culturally safe workplaces
- Relevant qualification or training in HR, business or people management
- Additional Information
- Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated
- Some travel within the Northern Rivers region may be required
- Duties may evolve in line with organisational needs.
