The Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the sustainment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of GEOINT (Geospatial Intelligence) capability systems operating across multiple security classifications.
These systems and platforms enable the collection, production, dissemination, and access to GEOINT data, information, and services critical to mission outcomes.
In this role, you will lead the planning, development, and implementation of sustainment activities for GEOINT mission systems. You will be responsible for overseeing both Financial Year and Multi-Year sustainment planning cycles, managing ad hoc ICT projects, and supporting governance forums.
Operating within a Product Management Office (PMO), you will lead a small multi-skilled team while working closely with a broad range of stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the planning, development, and implementation of projects and system sustainment activities within agreed cost, time, and quality parameters
- Managing capability lifecycles, including system development, enhancement, and continuous improvement
- Leading organisational change activities associated with ICT systems
- Planning, initiating, and managing procurement activities to support program and organisational requirements
- Managing complex system migrations across platforms
- Leading stakeholder engagement and ensuring effective communication across all levels
- Managing project and product governance, including reporting, change control, and risk and issue management
- Coordinating team resources in line with project and product priorities
- Providing leadership and direction to vendor specialists and internal team members
- Conducting quality reviews and ensuring deliverables meet agreed standards and are completed on schedule
- Escalating issues and providing timely advice to executive stakeholders as required
You will take full responsibility for the successful delivery of medium-scale projects, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and maintaining structured project management practices. This includes selecting and applying appropriate methodologies, whether predictive (plan-driven) or adaptive (agile/iterative), depending on the project context.
There may also be opportunities for suitable candidates to be considered for other sustainment or delivery teams within related GEOINT capability areas.
This role is based in Canberra and requires on-site attendance. Flexible work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Occasional out-of-hours support and domestic travel may be required.
A TSPV clearance is required for this role.
About You
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Proven experience managing projects within complex ICT or capability environments
- Experience supporting or delivering within GEOINT, geospatial, or data-driven capability environments (highly regarded)
- Strong capability in project planning, delivery, and governance, including cost, schedule, and quality management
- Experience managing system sustainment, enhancement, or migration activities
- Demonstrated ability to manage risk, issues, and change within structured project environments
- Experience working within or alongside a PMO, with an understanding of governance processes and reporting frameworks
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience leading small teams and coordinating resources to achieve project outcomes
- Experience managing vendors and supporting procurement activities
- Ability to apply appropriate project management methodologies, including both plan-driven and agile approaches
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timelines
You will be a proactive and adaptable professional, comfortable working in dynamic environments, managing competing priorities, and contributing to the successful delivery of mission-critical GEOINT capability outcomes.
