The Role

Location: Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne (other locations considered)

The Financial Governance Manager operates under broad direction to deliver complex to very complex financial governance across acquisition, sustainment, and budget management functions within an integrated workforce environment.

The role applies in-depth knowledge of financial management legislation, compliance frameworks, and financial policy to support informed decision-making and alignment with strategic objectives and operational priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing financial analysis, assurance, and advice based on access to live and authoritative financial data and reporting systems
  • Delivering financial, governance, and risk advice to senior leaders, including advice shaping funding profiles across acquisition and sustainment
  • Advising on cost, schedule, scope, and affordability trade-offs across the capability lifecycle
  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing financial governance policies, procedures, and controls across budgeting, cost management, reporting, and assurance
  • Identifying and addressing non-compliance through practical and sustainable solutions
  • Undertaking complex problem solving, issues management, and sensitive project work with strategic, political, or operational implications
  • Coordinating financial and governance inputs to initiatives and supporting executive and ministerial outcomes with timely, high-quality advice
  • Overseeing and assuring financial and performance reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and executive-level reporting
  • Supporting the effective use of financial and risk management systems and tools to improve transparency, data quality, and decision support
  • Providing financial and risk governance oversight for projects, including cost models, funding strategies, budget-related submissions, and parliamentary reporting processes
  • Acting as a key liaison with finance and enabling stakeholders
  • Contributing to improved financial and risk maturity through guidance, coaching, and targeted support to project teams
  • Influencing stakeholders across projects and functions and promoting financial discipline, risk awareness, data integrity, and compliance

About You

You are an experienced financial governance professional with the ability to operate independently in a complex environment.

You demonstrate:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial management legislation, compliance frameworks, and financial policy
  • Experience delivering financial governance, budgeting, cost management, and reporting
  • Ability to provide financial, governance, and risk advice to senior stakeholders
  • Experience working with financial data and reporting systems to deliver timely, evidence-based analysis
  • Strong capability in financial assurance, compliance, and risk management
  • Experience supporting budget processes, submissions, and parliamentary reporting
  • Ability to undertake complex problem solving and manage sensitive work
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence across projects and functions
  • Ability to support and promote financial discipline, data integrity, and compliance practices
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and timely advice
