The Role

This position will support Air Force Headquarters in developing the capability management transition of the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) from GWEO to Air Force. Working under direction, the role will contribute to the development and implementation of required documentation that underpins the JSM capability management transition.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying knowledge of Air Power, Maritime and Land Strike to inform capability development and understanding the Joint Targeting Enterprise.
  • Conducting Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) analysis and contributing to the formulation of requirements for the employment of JSM within Air Force.
  • Supporting the development of high-quality documentation and artefacts.
  • Developing Capability Definition Documents for the Joint Strike Missile (JSM).
  • Supporting the development of JSM Engineering and Governance documentation along with the bespoke system.
  • Engaging with multiple Senior Stakeholders to ensure a collaborative cross domain approach to manage and mitigate risk.
  • Supporting Air Combat Capability Branch and the JSM Project in transition activities.
  • Coordinating the definition of capability milestones and a JSM Materiel Acquisition Agreement, including definition of Capability Target States, Minimum Viable Capability, Initial and Final Operating Capabilities.

The successful candidate will operate within an integrated workforce to deliver complex tasks across multiple organisations within Air Force and the broader Australian Defence Organisation (ADO), including but not limited to development of Capability Definition Documents and Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) systems analysis, capability risk identification and communication, and support to any governance correspondence.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Capturing essential information for the establishment and realisation of the JSM system as a capability, including identification and interpretation of relevant legislation, policies, strategies, business requirements and team needs, and applying these appropriately to tasking.
  • Ensuring effective capability management to deliver an operational and integrated Air Force capability.
  • Ensuring the provision of essential support equipment and services necessary for JSM integration and operational employment.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships, managing or mitigating capability risks, and resolving complex issues to achieve Air Combat program outcomes.
  • Conducting FIC planning and scoping, ensuring appropriate coordination and consultation within Air Force units and other required stakeholders.
  • Developing an Operational Concept Document (OCD).

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work within integrated Defence environments and contribute to capability development and transition activities relating to the Joint Strike Missile capability.

You will ideally possess:

  • Knowledge of Air Power, Maritime and Land Strike capability environments.
  • Experience contributing to Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) analysis and planning.
  • Experience developing capability documentation and governance artefacts.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across Defence environments.
  • Experience supporting capability risk identification, mitigation and governance activities.
  • The ability to coordinate across multiple organisations and stakeholders within the Australian Defence Organisation (ADO).
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to develop high-quality Defence documentation.
  • The ability to support capability transition and integration activities within Air Force environments.

Essential Requirements:

  • Active Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2) Security Clearance.
  • Air Domain experience is essential.
