About the role
We are looking for an experienced Head Barista to lead the team at our York St. venue. The right person will be highly skilled and passionate about specialty coffee, with a strong work ethic and proven ability to lead a barista team to deliver the ultimate customer experience. You will maintain exceptional coffee standards, take ownership of coffee quality outcomes, and lead by example in drink quality, presentation, and service

Tasks and responsibilities:
- Leading and managing a passionate barista team, providing training, coaching, and ongoing feedback to support skill and coffee knowledge development
- Maintaining exceptional coffee standards, including extraction management, calibration, and recipe implementation
- Leading shifts confidently, supporting the team during peak periods, and communicating clearly with FOH, BOH, and management
- Managing the coffee program, including liaising with the Industry Beans roastery
- Delivering high service standards, engaging confidently with customers, and handling coffee-related feedback professionally
- Overseeing bar setup, cleanliness, equipment care, stock levels, ordering, and wastage control
- Taking full ownership of coffee outcomes, following company systems and policies, and actively contributing to continuous improvement
- Managing retail offerings and ensuring visual merchandising is maintained at a high standard
- Leading the team during shifts, organising breaks, approving timesheets, and ensuring smooth service flow
- Thriving in a fast-paced environment and working effectively under pressure
- Ensuring a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous learning among all baristas
You’ll be perfect for this role if you have:
- A customer-focused approach to specialty coffee
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience as a barista in specialty coffee, with leadership experience managing a team
- Strong experience developing and managing a team to deliver high-quality, consistent specialty coffee
- Expertise across a variety of machines and brewing styles
- Strong understanding of extraction profiling and implementing recipes
- Excellent latte art and the ability to train others
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Clear and effective communication
- Availability to work a variety of weekdays and weekends, including Sunday
