HumanAbility is a Jobs and Skills Council for the health, human services, aged care and
disability, sport & recreation and early childhood industries.
HumanAbility’s objective is to advance education by supporting skills and workforce development
for the above specified industries. It is a values-based organisation, that is not-for-profit, industry-owned and led, that is contracted by the federal government.
We have an opportunity for a Technical Writer to join us on a full-time basis in an ongoing capacity subject to funding (currently funded until mid-2028). The role operates within Community Services and Mental Health, and so experience in these areas is imperative. The role may be located anywhere in Australia and will involve travel with overnight stays for organisation meetings, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and industry events.
About the position
Key responsibilities for this position include the active development and quality assurance of HumanAbility workforce planning and vocational education and training products including functional analysis reports, training package components, training and assessment materials and other products designed to support implementation by RTOs and improve the quality of delivery.
This will require workshop facilitation and working with stakeholders. Product Development will require drafting products end to end. The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
This role will:
- Develop vocational education and training products in consultation with sector stakeholders – including development of new training products and review and updating of existing products.
- Facilitate workshops with key stakeholders (both online and in-person) to undertake a functional analysis and develop and review a range of training products including qualifications, skill sets and units of competency, along with implementation resources such as training and assessment materials.
- Build consensus through negotiation with different stakeholders, in the development of content.
- Quality assure training products and materials that are being developed
- Brief and present to a variety of audiences on draft products and implementation of new products.
- Follow a consultation and governance process to finalise approvals of products developed; this will include the drafting of associated papers and reports.
- Work in several smaller project teams to aid the development of workforce plans and training products.
- Observe and follow work health, safety and wellbeing policies and guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Industry knowledge – a demonstrated understanding of industries within HumanAbility’s scope, and workforce development issues in these industries or a demonstrated ability to build this
knowledge quickly.
- Specialist knowledge/technical skills: a) Demonstrated experience in development of nationally accredited training products. b) Knowledge of national VET policy and the Training Package Organising Framework including Standards for Training Packages, Training Package Products Policy and Training Package Products Development and Endorsement Process Policy.
- Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a project-based delivery environment and deliver a complex work program.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- High level IT skills in a range of software associated with document content management, stakeholder relationship management systems, project management tools and Microsoft Office.
- A Certificate IV in Training Assessment and/or a relevant Higher Education qualification, is preferred.

All appointees must be willing to obtain a police check and Working with Children Check.
There may be times when it is required to work outside normal business hours i.e. evenings
and weekends to meet operational and/or stakeholder requirements, and dependant on work deliverables, the role may be required to undertake travel.
We operate a hybrid working model. While flexibility is supported, the balance of office-based work, in-person attendance at meetings, events, etc and remote work will vary depending on role, location, and business needs.
