Description

Welcome to HotDoc 👋

Founded in Melbourne in 2012, HotDoc is Australia’s largest patient engagement platform — connecting over 10 million patients with more than 21,000 practitioners across GPs, Allied Health, Dental, Specialists and Optometrists. Our platform handles millions of healthcare interactions every day, and the engineering behind it has to be reliable, secure and scalable.

We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to co-lead our Primary Care Mission Based Team (MBT). This is a hands-on leadership role at the heart of how we modernise primary care in Australia.

About the Role

The Primary Care MBT focuses on modernising primary care through patient engagement and regulatory enablement. The team of ~18 — including nine engineers, a Single Threaded Leader, Product Managers, Designers and a Data Engineer — is delivering several meaningful initiatives. These include a new integration platform, AI-powered tools to improve clinic efficiency, work to support clinics in meeting upcoming regulatory requirements, and key platform and security improvements, including multi-factor authentication and stronger security requirements.

We’re looking for someone who can orient quickly, re-establish delivery cadence, build genuine trust with engineers and create the conditions for a talented team to do their best work.

A meaningful part of this role involves leading your team’s AI capability development —we want a leader who is curious, has a point of view, and can help engineers build confidence in using AI responsibly and ethically.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and coaching a team of 5 engineers in a multi-disciplinary product squad
  • Rebuilding and maintaining strong delivery cadence against active quarterly objectives
  • Partnering with Product, Design and Data to keep engineering aligned to the roadmap
  • Championing AI adoption — embedding AI tools into workflows and up-skilling the team
  • Acting as a clear, consistent voice between Engineering and senior stakeholders

What You Must Have

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience in a SaaS or technology environment
  • Proven ability to lead a product-aligned, agile engineering team and step into a leadership gap with confidence
  • Strong technical grounding in SaaS product delivery and software engineering practices
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI tools and a clear perspective on leading teams through AI adoption
  • Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences

You’re Someone We’d Love to Meet If You:

  • Are energised by the opportunity to step into a team that needs leadership and make a real, visible difference quickly
  • Approach AI with curiosity — you’ve used AI tools in your work and you have a view on where they add real engineering value
  • Thrive in fast-moving environments where you own your work, speak up when things are off-track and assume positive intent in others
  • Care about the patient, practice and practitioner experience your team’s work enables — behind every feature is someone’s health

What We Offer

  • Hybrid working — Melbourne HQ available Monday to Friday; flexible arrangements supported
  • A collaborative team environment
  • The chance to lead a team doing impressive work that directly impacts the health of millions of Australians
  • Access to our comprehensive Health & Wellbeing Program
  • A generous Learning & Development Budget
  • Parental leave benefits including paid baby sleep school, first aid courses, and EAP for primary and secondary caregivers
  • Company-wide events and activities at our Melbourne HQ, open to all remote and hybrid staff several times a year
  • Private and confidential EAP from Day 1
  • In-house Career and Strengths Coaching tailored to every employee
