Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to provide assistance and support to individuals with disabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping clients with daily living activities, providing emotional support, and promoting independence and community integration. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to travel within the area of service delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe, consistent, and trauma-informed care to children and young people in OOHC environments.
  • Support the implementation of individualised case plans and behaviour support plans as directed by the host agency.
  • Supervise and support children and young people in all facets of daily routines and activities including but not limited to education or vocation, appointments, family time, recreation, and transport.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, supervisions and training as directed by the host agency
  • Accurately document incident reports, daily progress notes, and other records in line with host agency protocols using host agency documentation systems.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with children and young people, fostering trust, stability, and emotional safety.
  • Support a physically safe, clean, and trauma-informed environment that helps children and young people feel secure and respected. Actively monitor for and report any WHS concerns or hazards to uphold safety standards and minimise risk.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and uphold confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Ensure all mandatory reporting responsibilities are met.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; certification in disability support or related field preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written; ability to effectively communicate in English is essential
  • Proficiency in other languages is a plus but not required
  • Good interpersonal skills necessary for interacting closely with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport quickly through good listening and observation skills
  • Patience, empathy & understanding of client needs should be demonstrated through good listening & observation skills
  • Ability to work independently under general direction; able to prioritize workload & manage time effectively
  • Ability/willingness to travel within the area of service delivery using own transport (driver’s license essential)
  • Demonstrated proficiency using various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel)
  • Requirements

  • Diploma level qualification in a related discipline; or
  • Minimum Cert IV in Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field and working towards obtaining a Diploma;
  • Current and paid satisfactory NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC);
  • Current satisfactory National Police Check;
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate; and
  • Full, unrestricted QLD driver’s licence and access to a reliable, roadworthy vehicle.
