Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to provide assistance and support to individuals with disabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping clients with daily living activities, providing emotional support, and promoting independence and community integration. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to travel within the area of service delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to clients.
  • Help clients with mobility and transportation needs.
  • Administer medication as prescribed by healthcare professionals and monitor health conditions.
  • Assist with meal preparation and household tasks.
  • Develop individualized care plans based on client needs.
  • Implement care plans while promoting independence in daily activities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and other stakeholders to ensure the best possible care for clients.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, progress notes, medications administered, etc.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; certification in disability support or related field preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written; ability to effectively communicate in English is essential
  • Proficiency in other languages is a plus but not required
  • Good interpersonal skills necessary for interacting closely with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport quickly through good listening and observation skills
  • Patience, empathy & understanding of client needs should be demonstrated through good listening & observation skills
  • Ability to work independently under general direction; able To prioritize workload & manage time effectively
  • Ability/willingness to travel within the area of service delivery using own transport (driver’s license essential)
  • Demonstrated proficiency using various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel)
