As a Peer Support Worker you will work with people engaged with the Aftercare Coordination Service. This service operates throughout the Wheatbelt and provides brief interventions, psychosocial support and case management for people who have survived a suicide attempt or have experienced, and/or are experiencing, suicidal crisis. The service aims to provide an interim safety net for people and their support network in this period of heightened risk and to coordinate access and transition into any required long-term supports.

About the role

  • Use your lived experience as a consumer of mental health and/or alcohol and other drug support services to support people engaging with the Aftercare service
  • Inspire hope and encourage self-empowerment, to assist consumers in navigating their recovery pathway
  • Build connection and rapport with consumers
  • Act as an advocate in support of consumers
  • Provide information about community resources and services, including linkage with other support agencies
  • Work collaboratively with the Aftercare Coordinator to develop and deliver the consumer’s recovery plan
  • Provide follow up contact for consumers who are disengaged and/or ambivalent about receiving support

This role is a fixed term, part time position, with 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE) on offer. The initial contract will be until 30 June 2026, with likelihood of extension.

Flexibility in days and hours of work may be possible for the successful candidate. Additional hours, increasing total hours to 37.5 hours per week, is available until 30 June 2026. The role can be based in Northam or Narrogin, with regular travel to Northam required.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • has a Cert IV in Peer Work, or equivalent demonstrated experienced in roles that draw on lived experience as a qualification
  • has demonstrated experience drawing on lived experience safely and with purpose
  • can demonstrate an ability to build rapport and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • can identify safety risks and appropriately manage and report these
  • can work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • is comfortable working with a range of digital systems, including Office 365 and the Holyoake client management system
