Hobart City Mission brings together people who want to give to and support those most in need in our local community, through the provision of client focused, holistic and innovative programs and services.
Small Steps is a live-in supported accommodation, parenting and life-skills program for young mums aged 15-25. The program allows the mums to focus on growing their parenting skills and bond with their baby.
We are seeking a dynamic and professional ‘people person’ to join our Small Steps program as Program Leader. You will be responsible for the coordination and day to day running of the Small Steps Program. You will onboard new mums and children into the program and support them to achieve goals during their stay, helping them to improve their parenting skills and retain their child/children in their care.
You will be responsible for the following:
- Receive, respond to and process referrals for the program
- Provide a high level of professional support to the residents
- Assist and encourage residents to become self-reliant
- Work with residents to complete and evaluate case plans and individual needs
- Provide day to day supervision for the Life Skills Mentor and volunteers in the program
- Provide training and coaching to staff and volunteers to improve the running of the program
To be successful, you will demonstrate the following:
- Relevant tertiary qualification (Diploma or above) in allied health, social sciences, human services, community leadership or a related discipline, and demonstrated experience in a related field
- An understanding of the Child, Youth & Family Services sector, including Child Safety and the requirements of the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997, Tasmanian Child and Youth Wellbeing framework and other key legislation
- Demonstrated experience in engaging and working therapeutically with infants and families
- Demonstrated understanding of infant development i.e. Developmental Milestones
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating groups
- Ability to network and develop effective working relationships at all levels of the community
