Haven Home Safe (HHS) is a purpose-driven, for-purpose, community housing provider
committed to ending housing insecurity and advancing housing justice across Victoria. We centre the voices and lived experience of the people we support working alongside our clients to deliver services that are respectful, inclusive, and responsive. We deliver homelessness intake and referral services, integrated housing and support services encompassing Social and Affordable housing, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Transitional Housing Management (THM), and property
services. We have
four (4) main office locations – Bendigo (registered Head Office), Preston, Mildura and Geelong.

Role Purpose
Tenancy Plus Workers:
- Provide assistance and support to vulnerable and disadvantaged social housing tenants to ensure they sustain their tenancy
- Identify and address underlying issues that may contribute to the risk of a tenancy breakdown which
may result in homelessness
- Work within a person-centered framework to identify and assess client needs, developing
appropriate supports via case plans
- Undertake effective case coordination in collaboration with external stakeholders
- Work across a number of funded homelessness programs as required
Primary Responsibilities
Advocacy, Referral and Support
- Provide responsive and professional advocacy based on principles of empowerment and
respect for vulnerable social housing tenants
- Provide support and interventions to address issues such as, rental arrears, anti-social behaviour, neighbourhood disputes, significant maintenance issues, hoarding and squalor, and advocacy for
VCAT matters
- Provide responsive outreach service as required – across the Mallee, Gannawarra Shire
and Buloke Shire
- Assess clients’ complex needs and refer to appropriate services
Community Development and Networking
- Engage respectfully and professionally with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders – particularly social housing providers
- Contribute to community development projects to enhance social housings profile in the
region
- Liaise and network with relevant services to promote the services of Haven Home Safe
and provide information regarding the needs of social housing tenants
- Participate in relevant regional forums and networks
Administration/Supervision
- Apply recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practice
- Attend and participate in regular staff meetings
- Attend team planning sessions and agency planning
- Work effectively with the team to ensure that all reporting and funding requirements are met
- Collect and record statistics as required by Haven Home Safe and funding bodies
- Participate in supervision, debriefing, training and team development
- Prioritise personal safety and follow outreach safety protocols
- Undertake other duties as directed by Haven Home Safe
Key Selection Criteria

Essential:
- Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to social justice
- Experience in supporting vulnerable, diverse, and disadvantaged individuals
- Demonstrated excellent organisational skills to meet deadlines and to deliver high quality
outputs, including the demonstrated ability to re-order work and priorities in response to demand and crisis
- Working knowledge of community agencies and housing services within the Mallee region
- Demonstrated understanding of the case management model and trauma-informed practice
- Qualification in relevant field e.g. social Work, Community Development, Welfare etc
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel Access and the
Internet
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of the team
- Hold a current Victorian Drivers Licence
- Confidence to provide outreach to city, rural and remote areas
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Tenancy and / or Consumer Legislation such as Residential Tenancies Act 1997
- A formal qualification in a related disciplines such as Social Work, Community Development or Welfare are highly desirable – a person having significant success and experience in a similar position is encouraged to apply
Safety Screening Requirements
- Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- National Police Check.
- Working with Children Check.
Travel Requirements
This position requires regular travel.
This role involves direct client and community-based work, including outreach and lone working in unfamiliar environments. Employees may support individuals experiencing trauma, mental health issues, family violence, or significant psychosocial stressors, and may be exposed to emotionally challenging situations and, on occasion, distressed, agitated, aggressive, or violent behaviours. The
role requires emotional resilience, sound judgement, and the consistent application of trauma informed and self-care practices. The organisation actively manages psychosocial and safety risks through risk assessment and planning, supervision, workload monitoring, safety protocols, check in
procedures, training, managerial support, and access to employee wellbeing supports.
This role is based in Mildura Victoria.
