THE ROLE
Based in our Townsville office, this role is responsible for delivering mechanical (HVAC) engineering services across a diverse range of sectors, including recreational, urban, health, education and commercial projects. Your day will typically include:
- Delivering high-quality mechanical (HVAC) engineering design solutions, including drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports
- Preparing detailed design documentation in line with relevant standards, codes and client requirements
- Supporting end-to-end project delivery and contributing to coordinated, multidisciplinary design outcomes
- Collaborating closely with electrical, hydraulic, structural and civil engineers to ensure integrated and practical solutions
- Contributing to proposals and bids, demonstrating commercial awareness and the ability to translate technical expertise into value-driven outcomes
- Preparing technical reports that support informed decision-making and build client confidence
- Engaging directly with clients, architects and project partners to understand requirements and deliver innovative, buildable HVAC solutions
- Working with peers across our national offices to share knowledge, maintain design consistency and support best practice outcomes
- Continuing to develop your technical and professional capability through project exposure, mentoring and collaboration
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
As a key member of our Mechanical team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects and the continued growth of HK Solutions. To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Established experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within building services / HVAC (3-6 years’ experience ideal, however levels of experience outside of this range will be considered)
- Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards and the National Construction Code (NCC) relevant to mechanical and HVAC systems
- Demonstrated experience in producing design documentation, specifications, reports, calculations and drawings
- Experience with mechanical/HVAC design tools and software, including CAMEL/HAP
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently within a national, multidisciplinary team environment
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence communicating with clients, consultants, contractors and project partners
- Flexibility and willingness to support short-term assignments in remote and regional locations, when required
- A continuous improvement mindset, bringing fresh ideas to enhance mechanical design processes, systems and outcomes
- Practical problem-solving skills, applying a common-sense and informed approach to technical and relationship challenges
- High-level communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to motivate and influence others
- A team-oriented approach with the drive to contribute to a supportive, high-performing culture
The following skills attributes will be highly regarded:
- CPEng or working towards professional accreditation (or equivalent)
- State-based engineering registration (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience delivering projects within the Australian/New Zealand market
- Experience in the design of commercial HVAC systems, including air-conditioning, ventilation and smoke control systems
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for mechanical documentation
