Harbison is a charitable, community-owned, not-for-profit organisation that provides residential and non-residential care and support services for aged or disabled people, including a range of support services and systems to assist aged and disabled people to achieve maximum independence and integration within a residential or community setting, education and training of professionals and other care providers, and activities which are incidental or conducive to these objectives.

Currently, Harbison is an approved aged care provider, registered NDIS provider, approved childcare provider, retirement village owner, and one of the largest employers in the Southern Highlands. Harbison is governed by a Board of Directors which appoints a Chief Executive Officer who is delegated with day-to-day responsibility for the organisation.

Primary purpose of the role

The role of an Engagement Officer is to assist with coordinating, implementing and evaluating activities at Harbison to give meaning and purpose to the lives of our residents.

The role also includes providing safe, reliable and person-centred transport to support residents in attending activities, medical appointments and community outings.

Key accountabilities

  • Orientate and assess resident to develop individualised care plans. This includes an ongoing review of care plans based on the changing needs of the residents.
  • Organise and facilitate various physical, social, spiritual and mentally stimulating activities per Activities calendar.
  • Accompany residents on social outings to various locations around the region. This may include driving Harbison vehicles.
  • Safely transport residents to medical appointments, outings and community activities in accordance with road laws and organisational policies.
  • Conduct risk assessments for outings as required.
  • Assist residents with entering and exiting vehicles, including the use of mobility aids and ensuring correct use of seatbelts and restraints and manual handling techniques.
  • Undertake routine vehicle safety checks including fuel levels, cleanliness and reporting maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate, regular and timely communication with residents, relatives and friends about the individual and group activities programs and maintaining documentation and tracking of KPI’s such as cognitive and physical abilities etc.
  • Collaborate with the Leisure and Lifestyle Team Leader to develop resilient activity programs tailored to the individual needs of the residents.
  • Assist in feedback processes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Assist at mealtimes, including meal delivery and morning/afternoon teas where required.
  • Provide support and participate in special events/activities as facilitated by Harbison.
  • Carry out all other reasonable duties within the overall function of the role. This will include personal care and supporting any team requiring support.
  • Maintain transport documentation, including logbooks, schedules and incident reports as required.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or incidents occurring during transport, ensuring resident safety at all times.

Requirements

  • Understanding of safe manual handling practices, particularly in relation to assisting residents with mobility when entering and existing vehicles.
