Katandra is a key backgrounding and transit depot within the Cunningham portfolio — running 3,000 steers and 2,500 heifers on-station, plus receiving 10,000–12,000 head annually moving through to southern properties. 

Leading Hand Responsibilities 

  • Lead crew during mustering and day-to-day operations 
  • Train, guide & support station staff in cattle handling and safe work practices 
  • Assist in implementing livestock programs, supplement strategies & grazing rotations 
  • Report livestock condition, pasture metrics & operational progress to management 
  • Coordinate toolbox talks and drive WHS compliance 
  • Assist with planning, maintenance schedules & asset management 
  • Step into Head Stockman duties when required 

What You’ll Bring 

  • Significant experience in a similar-scale cattle operation 
  • Proven ability to lead, train and motivate a team 
  • Ability to ride horses and/or 2-wheel motorbikes safely 
  • Strong communication, reliability & willingness to learn 
  • Organised, practical and safety-focused 
  • Enjoy working outdoors and in a team environment 
  • Strong understanding of beef production systems 
  • Confident decision-maker with excellent time management 
  • Able to communicate clearly with crew and management
