About the role

This is an excellent opportunity to be a key member of the executive leadership team, acting as a true business partner with our Partners and the board. This is a highly visible and influential role, offering the opportunity to shape strategy and directly impact the trajectory of the business.

The role is both strategic and operational in nature, requiring a hands-on leader who can drive financial performance while contributing to broader business decision-making and growth.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead financial strategy, long-term planning, and commercial decision support. Provide clear, insight-led guidance to senior leaders and move effortlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
  • Oversee financial performance, including planning, forecasting, budgeting, controls, and risk management. Ensure strong governance, accuracy, and integrity while driving disciplined performance management across the business.
  • Own and manage cashflow forecasting and working capital, including oversight of WIP, disbursements, and revenue conversion across the litigation lifecycle.
  • Develop financial models and reporting aligned to key operational drivers, including file volumes, pipeline conversion, and settlement outcomes.
  • Drive finance transformation across systems, processes, data, and ways of working. Champion continuous improvement with a focus on real-time visibility, reporting accuracy, and decision-making.
  • Building capability, strengthening business partnering, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence of the Finance team.
  • Provide detailed profitability analysis across practice areas, teams, and file types, identifying risks and opportunities to improve margins.
  • Support business growth initiatives, including expansion, new office locations, and potential acquisitions.

 

This role will suit a CFO or senior finance leader who:

  • Executive-level finance leadership experience, ideally at the CFO, or Finance Director level.
  • Ability to shift quickly between strategy and operations, comfortable shaping direction and rolling up your sleeves.
  • Has previously worked in a law firm
  • Is able to provide detailed and strategic analysis on profitability, cost control, and investment decisions (e.g., marketing), with a strong commercial mindset.
  • Can prepare short- and long-term financial forecasts for staffing, marketing, and infrastructure.
  • Can collaborate closely with Managing Partners, COOs, and HR to align financial management with operational goals.
  • Demonstrated success driving transformation across finance systems, processes, or operating models.
  • Strong business partnering style with the confidence and presence to challenge, influence, and guide senior stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, with the ability to drive accountability and make commercially sound decisions.
