Senior Legal Counsel — Global X ETFs Australia (Sydney)

Our newly created Senior Legal Counsel role will play a pivotal role in shaping the legal and regulatory foundation of our Australian business.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will contribute your legal expertise across the full ETF product lifecycle, enabling strategic growth whilst ensuring robust corporate governance and the highest compliance standards.

What You’ll Do

Legal Advisory & Leadership

• Provide expert legal advice across capital markets, ETF lifecycle, financial services regulation, and commercial arrangements.

• Serve as a subject matter expert on financial services law and legal risk for senior leadership.

• Collaborate with regulators, auditors, and key internal and external stakeholders.

• Provide clear, practical legal advice on governance, fiduciary duties, conflicts of interest, and shareholder rights.

• Prepare board reports and support directors on regulatory and commercial issues.

• Support CoSec when required.

Product Lifecycle & Disclosure

• Advise on ETF structuring, offering, and listing across ASX, Cboe, and global exchanges.

• Review offer documents, TMDs, notices, and product collateral.

• Participate in due diligence and product committees

Commercial Contracting

• Draft, negotiate, anngd approve key commercial agreements (e.g., service providers, custody, investment management, licensing, NDAs, sponsorships, events).

• Advise on indemnities, liabilities, and distribution arrangements (domestic and offshore).

• Manage the full contract execution lifecycle.

Regulation, Licensing & Risk

• Monitor regulatory changes and assess business impacts with Risk & Compliance.

• Manage licensing changes and regulatory lodgements.

• Participate in board delegated committees.

Corporate Communications & Litigation

• Manage relations and interactions with external regulatory.

• Oversee relationships with external counsel.

• Review and approve corporate communications as required.

What You Bring

Experience

• 7+ years PQE in financial services or asset management (in house + private practice ideal).

• Deep knowledge of Australian ETF structures, Corporations Act, AML, securities laws, and funds management regulation.

• Experience advising boards, senior leaders, regulators, and auditors.

• Familiarity with global fund structures; exposure to ESG, data, or AI regulatory frameworks is a plus.

Skills

• Law degree + current Australian practising certificate.

• Advanced drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.

• Strong commercial judgment and legal risk assessment capability.

• Ability to present complex concepts clearly and influence senior stakeholders.

• Proactive, solutions oriented, collaborative, and effective in fast paced environments.
