We are seeking a Specialist Family Violence Practitioner – Active Engagement within our Case Management and Crisis Response team! This role is a SCHADS Level 5.1 – 5.3 ($103,799 – $108,502) pro rata, pay point dependent on experience, plus 12% superannuation and up to $15,990 salary packaging. This is a part-time (0.4 FTE) 6-month max term role.
About the role
The Specialist Family Violence Practitioner – Active Engagement role is key in supporting the timely and appropriate allocation of case management services to victim survivors of family violence. Working closely with the Allocations Coordinator, this role ensures that risk and need are continuously monitored and responded to during the pre-allocation period.
The practitioner engages directly with victim survivors awaiting case management to assess risk, safety plan, and implement immediate risk mitigation strategies. They also identify alternative service pathways that may better meet the client’s needs in a timely manner. This role requires strong understanding and application of the MARAM Framework, demonstrated family violence expertise, and collaborative practice within a dynamic and responsive team environment.
Key responsibilities:
• Work collaboratively with the Allocations Coordinator to ensure all clients awaiting allocation are regularly reviewed and supported based on risk and need.
• Proactively engage with clients awaiting family violence case management to identify changes in risk and respond accordingly.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans using relevant information sharing legislation and the MARAM Framework.
• Utilise safety planning and immediate risk mitigation/management strategies as needed by victim survivors awaiting allocation.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive client records to support prioritisation at the Western Allocations Meeting (WAM).
• Identify opportunities for supporting clients awaiting allocation through alternate pathways including referrals to relevant services or brief interventions and close.
• Utilise relevant information sharing legislation to ensure quality of risk assessments, risk management practice and prioritisation.
• Supporting the broader functions of the Case Management and Crisis Response program as needed, including intake and assessment, referral, advice and information and psychosocial education for victim survivors as needed by the program.
About you
Essential
• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in family violence practice, including the use of the MARAM Framework.
• Demonstrated ability to engage victim survivors in a sensitive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive manner
• Ability to work effectively with clients experiencing complex and dynamic risk, including responding to escalation and safety concerns
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills.
• Commitment to GenWest’s values, intersectional feminist framework, and inclusive practice.
• Current Working with Children Check.
• National Police Check (and international check if applicable).
Desired
• Experience working in roles involving intake, triage, waitlist management, or active engagement in a family violence or related setting
• Knowledge of the service system and referral pathways in Melbourne’s western region
• Experience working with complex needs cohorts (e.g. mental health, AOD, homelessness, child protection interface)
