ABOUT THE ROLE
REVENUE GENERATION
- Work closely with the CRO, GM Commercial, Senior BDM and GM – Competitions, to drive revenue growth and achieve annual commercial revenue budget through commercial rights sales especially across sponsorship and media rights
- To lead the commercial development and management of Football Australia’s competitions, initially focused primarily on the Australian Championship and CommBank Emerging Matildas and Socceroos Championships but also supporting other competitions as required from time to time.
- Responsible for ongoing duties associated with the securing and servicing of commercial partners across these competitions, with a view to meeting their marketing goals, enhancing football fans’ experience, renewing (or replacing) contracts, and growing returns for football and its communities.
- Importantly, this role is dedicated to both the commercial sales cycle as well as partner servicing of the Australian Championship and future competitions.
- Develop and articulate compelling, structured, long-term partnership opportunities and rights packages that can be taken to market.
- Plays an integral role in the end-to-end management of the entire sales cycle working alongside agency partners and wider Commercial team members: Research and insights, generating new leads, meeting and presenting to prospects, negotiating, contracting.
- Maintaining the sales pipeline and ongoing reporting is a critical part of this role.
- Monitoring and staying ahead of industry trends, news, and developments across multiple markets
PARTNERSHIP MANAGEMENT
- Service all Australian Championship Partner needs, including sponsorship deliverables
- Ensure Football Australia is fulfilling its contractual obligations to competition partners throughout the term of their agreement, delivering value over and above expectations to maintain high levels of sponsor satisfaction.
- Implement regular partnership WIP meetings with partners and broadcasters
- Continually monitor and review partner contractual benefits and pro-actively create and present ideas to partners to most effectively utilise and deliver against set objectives.
- Working collaboratively and proactively with Football Australia’s Digital, Content, Community, Marketing, Media, Legal and Competitions teams.
COMMERCIAL STRATEGY AND OPERATIONS
- Strongly contribute to all internal Competitions related meetings, providing Commercial input and helping support success delivery of the Competitions while being the subject matter expert for commercial matters
- Work alongside Chief Revenue Officer, GM – Commercial and GM – Competitions, on developing and evolving the overall commercial concept for the Australian Championship
- Create market assessment of all commercial rights opportunities, including sponsorship, broadcast, radio, gaming and licensing and support with strategies for developing revenue and strategic opportunities in those areas.
- Oversee all commercial operations requirements, such as signage plans, matchday activations, VIP experiences and other operational elements, working with FA colleagues and third party suppliers and agencies.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive revenue growth through commercial and media rights sales
- Achieve annual commercial revenue budget
- Implement structures and systems that enhance the functional working relationship between commercial and competition teams.
- Support the GM Commercial in delivering an enhanced end-to-end commercial sales process.
- Support content and broadcast teams to optimise commercial outcomes in the broadcast and digital content space.
- Own Australian Championship partner relationships, delivering all contractual rights and value over and above expectations to maintain high levels of sponsor satisfaction
- Creation of exceptional sales assets, presentations, and other materials working alongside internal colleagues and external agency support from time to time.
- Monitor and stay ahead of industry trends, news, and developments across multiple markets to identify new opportunities.
- Manage, review and enhance commercial strategy, working within governance, compliance, regulatory and policy frameworks across signage, club inventory/rights and the use of teams and players – imagery and access
- Positive internal and external stakeholder management, maintaining and establishing new relationships to grow football in Australia.

ABOUT YOU
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Essential
- Minimum 4 years in a commercial role, ideally with a background in sport, entertainment or media
- Meticulous attention to detail and highly organised
- Methodical and measured in your approach to solving problems
- Highly capable with Microsoft Office
- Passionate about partnerships and building meaningful relationships
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously, demonstrate initiative, and proactively solve problems
- Ability to articulate clear understanding of data and analytics to justify deal proposals and structure
- High doses of positivity, enthusiasm, curiosity, passion, flexibility, and resilience
- Committed in the service of delivering results and being a key contributor in a high performing team
- Advocacy for the power of sport and entertainment to drive B2B and B2C marketing outcomes
- Proven success in a competitive sport sponsorship / business development environment
- Comfort presenting to senior executives and/or competition clubs.
- A team player, with the ability to work independently
- Ability to work on multiple projects to different timelines.
Desirable
- Direct sports sponsorship and event management knowledge
- Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, video editing, sales software, and related tools a strong plus
- Superior understanding of brand marketing, consumer behaviour, and domestic and global sponsorship markets
Additional Requirements:
- Full working rights in Australia
- Working with children check (paid/employee) or state-based equivalent
- International Criminal History Record for each country (other than Australia) in which you have resided for 12 months or more in the last 10 years (if applicable)
- Out of hours and weekend work as required
