Position Summary:
This is a pivotal behind-the-scenes role that directly supports patient care. You will be responsible for producing high-quality clinical correspondence, ensuring timely and accurate communication between our specialists, referring practitioners and patients.
Working closely with our clinicians and administration team, you’ll contribute to smooth clinic operations and positive patient outcomes through precision, organisation and attention to detail.
We are seeking an experienced Medical Typist to join our team, someone who takes pride in accuracy, understands the importance of clinical communication and thrives in a professional, fast-paced healthcare environment.
You will report to the direct line manager and practice manager.
With our Hove clinic as the main hub for our word processing team, we also offer WFH flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transcribe medical dictations including clinical notes, discharge summaries, referral letters and reports
- Proofread and edit documents for accuracy, grammar, and formatting
- Ensure all medical terminology, abbreviations, and formatting are correct
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in line with privacy regulations
- Manage and prioritise transcription workloads to meet deadlines
- Liaise with doctors and healthcare staff to clarify unclear dictation
- Format documents according to clinic standards
Skills and Qualifications:
We’re looking for someone whocombines technical skill with professionalism and care:
- Proven experience in audio medical typing within a healthcare setting
- High typing accuracy (approximately 80+ words per minute)
- Exceptional attention to detail and written communication skills
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- High level of discretion and confidentiality
- A high level of professionalism, discretion and reliability
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience with HealthTrack or similar systems
- Exposure to specialist or multi-disciplinary environments
Education and Experience:
- Certificate or training in medical transcription (desirable but not always required)
- Previous experience in a healthcare or administrative setting (advantageous)
