About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced professional to join our team as a Senior Heritage Advisor (relative to experience) on a full-time, permanent basis. Our Built Heritage and Places team is growing and we are looking for highly motivated heritage professionals who want to grow their skills, experience and career with us. This position is based in our Sydney office; however, we welcome applications from candidates located outside the Sydney metropolitan area, broader NSW, or the ACT/Canberra region and you will have the opportunity to work on projects nationally.
The core business of our Built Heritage and Places team is built heritage conservation, inclusive of heritage buildings and structures, landscapes and objects. The team works with a wide range of clients, including local and state government, architects, planners, developers and owners of heritage places to proactively identify, assess and manage heritage. This client base presents staff with many unique and diverse project opportunities.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Preparing heritage advice and heritage impact assessments, heritage studies, conservation management plans, schedule of conservation works, building condition assessment, photographic archival recordings, strategic and planning policies, heritage asset management strategies, interpretation strategies and plans.
- Preparing high quality referrals to council statutory planning teams and management plans in compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Engaging with Traditional Owner groups, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.
- Conducting stakeholder consultations and surveys, field surveys and reporting
- Preparing high quality fee proposals and work methodologies
About You
Essential skills and experience
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to meet the following criteria:
- A bachelors, and Honours or post graduate qualifications in heritage conservation, architecture, planning, history, cultural heritage studies, or related field)
- Demonstrated professional experience of 5+ years.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare documentation to a high standard.
- Experience in delivering successful and timely projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of built heritage management, conservation and/or interpretation work.
- Demonstrated experience in surveys, site inspections, recording, and research.
- Sound working knowledge of relevant local, state and national level legislations applicable to local, state, national and World heritage.
- Demonstrated ability to understand buildings and fabric to undertake condition survey and assessment.
- Availability and willingness to work out of the Sydney metro area for short-term projects or fieldwork, as well as inter-state.
- Excellent oral, written, organisational, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Sound knowledge of principles and best practice guidelines as outlined in the Australia ICOMOS Burra Charter.
- Demonstrated project management experience, including managing project finances, directing project teams, working to tight deadlines within budget constraints, engaging and managing subcontractors.
- Experience of working with multiple stakeholders including local governments and state departments.

- First Aid Certificate
- Experience working in a consulting environment
- Demonstrated experience in conservation and/or interpretation
- Rail Industry Worker card
