About the Role
We have exciting opportunities for Deckhands to join our Townsville Team on a casual basis, with one permanent position available.
These roles are integral, utilising your skills and hard work ethic, you’ll be taking on responsibilities to ensure our vessels operate to the highest standard, in the safest way possible to achieve high performing port operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain deck and lines in a state of readiness including thorough mooring and towline inspections.
- Assist in safe bunkering in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist in inspecting the fire and safety equipment.
- Assist in the maintenance of tools and equipment on board the vessel.
- Assist in general vessel maintenance.
- Participate in galley duties as required.
- Responsible for preparing the vessel for departure and re-berthing.
- Responsible for housekeeping of the vessel including mess area, deck, bathrooms and sleeping quarters as required.
- Carry out all instructions given by the vessel Master during emergency situations.
- Other responsibilities as directed by the vessel specific Master or Engineer (if assisting in the engine room or with maintenance).
- Assist with any other requests as directed by Engage Marine Group management team including the Port and Technical Managers.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum qualification: AMSA General Purpose Hand (NC) and AMSA Certificate of Safety Training (COST).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Deckhand undertaking similar operations.
- Desirable: Master <24m or above, and/or MED II
- Highly developed leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of marine and safety legislation as well as environmental requirements.
- Ability to maintain positive and effective relationships on-board and with vessel crews.
- Safety leadership capability and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Sound decision making and a proactive, confident approach to problem solving.
- Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, including attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and control own workload.
Note: This role is residential. There will be a preference for the successful candidate to reside in the Townsville area.
