Description

About eNerds

eNerds is one of Australia’s leading Managed IT Service Providers, delivering proactive IT support, cyber security, cloud solutions and strategic technology advice to small and medium businesses. Founded in 2000, we’ve grown to a team of 60+ passionate professionals supporting clients across Australia.

Our commitment to exceptional service and innovation has been recognised with SMB IT Partner of the Year seven times between 2015 and 2022 . We’re a collaborative, friendly and down-to-earth team who enjoy regular catchups, social events and a culture built on supporting each other.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Technical Advisory Manager to lead our Technical Advisory function, managing a team of two direct reports. The team delivers technical onboarding, IT audits, asset and documentation standards, risk identification, and the development of vCIO reports and technology roadmaps—forming the technical backbone of our advisory practice.

You’ll guide clients through early engagement, ensure their environments are well understood before support begins, and oversee the quality of advisory outputs used by Account Managers, the GM of Advisory, and senior leaders.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be accountable for the day‑to‑day delivery and quality of technical advisory outputs, ensuring ICT audits, cybersecurity assessments, and technology roadmaps are completed to a consistently high standard.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and mentor Technical Advisory Engineers, building a collaborative, high‑performance team
  • Own standards for technical onboarding, advisory delivery, audits, and cybersecurity
  • Deliver and assure the quality of ICT audits, cybersecurity assessments, vCIO reports, and technology roadmaps
  • Ensure advisory work aligns with best‑practice frameworks, including Essential Eight and Microsoft Secure Score
  • Partner with the GM of Advisory on complex client discussions and roadmap presentations
  • Ensure client environments are thoroughly assessed, with risks clearly documented and communicated
  • Oversee technical onboarding and ensure a smooth transition into ongoing support
  • Support Account Managers with clear, practical technical recommendations
  • Drive the advisory cadence, including roadmaps, QBRs, risk discussions, and technology planning
  • Continuously improve advisory processes, templates, and documentation
  • Provide senior technical escalation support when required, including occasional Severity 1 involvement

Who This Role Will Suit

This role will suit someone who:

  • Has strong experience in technical consulting, advisory, or senior engineering within an MSP
  • Enjoys guiding others and shaping standards (formal people management experience not required)
  • Communicates confidently with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Is comfortable leading roadmap, risk, and planning conversations
  • Prefers structured advisory work over day‑to‑day operational support
  • Values accuracy, preparation, and clear documentation

What You Need

Must‑have

  • 8+ years’ experience in IT support, systems engineering, or similar technical roles
  • Experience operating at a senior or lead level, including mentoring, escalation support, or influencing technical direction
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VPNs, routing, DNS, Wi‑Fi, and switching
  • Strong experience across the Microsoft stack, including Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and DFS
  • Proven experience conducting technical audits, fact‑finding, and environment documentation
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences
  • Hands‑on experience configuring and supporting network infrastructure (firewalls, switches, Wi‑Fi, UPS)
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills

Nice to have

  • Experience in technical advisory, solution design, or vCIO‑style engagements
  • Relevant TAFE or vendor certifications (Microsoft, networking, security)
  • Exposure to virtualisation technologies (Hyper‑V, VMware)
  • Familiarity with backup technologies (ShadowProtect, Veeam) and cloud platforms (Azure,
  • AWS, Google Workspace, Dropbox)
  • Basic project coordination experience
