This role
This is a commercially minded, high-autonomy role for someone who’s energised by complexity and gets genuine satisfaction from bringing order to chaos. You’ll manage our full saas software spend portfolio and make sure every dollar is working as hard as it should be.
This isn’t a transactional procurement role. If you’re looking for a process-following, PO-stamping position, this isn’t it. We’re not hiring someone to slow things down or add bureaucratic layers. The person who thrives here will understand the business well enough to know when to hold the line on a vendor negotiation and when to move quickly.
You’ll report directly to the CFO and own the commercial relationship Employment Hero has with every software vendor it pays. This is a build role — you’re setting up the function from scratch, creating the operating model, and making sure our third-party spend works as hard as the rest of the business does on its path to A$400M+ ARR.
Your key focus areas will be
- Own the technology spend budget end-to-end: build and maintain the vendor cost register, track actuals vs budget monthly, and ensure investment goes through proper financial appraisal before commitment
- Lead all commercial negotiations and procurement activity across SaaS and software, securing best-in-class pricing, licensing terms, and contractual protections in partnership with Legal
- Drive continuous cost optimisation across the portfolio — consolidating redundant tools, right-sizing licences, eliminating shelfware, and making sure nothing auto-renews at bad terms
- Hold vendors to account through regular performance reviews, track market pricing benchmarks, and surface concentration risk and contractual exposure to the CFO before it becomes a problem
- Provide the CFO and ELT with the reporting they need to make good capital allocation decisions: monthly spend dashboards, savings pipeline, board-ready materials, and commercial input into the Enterprise Technology Strategy
This will include
- Owning the full SaaS / software spend portfolio
- Leading all material vendor negotiations and renewals, including Salesforce, Zendesk, AWS, and equivalent enterprise agreements
- Building and enforcing procurement workflows that give the business speed and confidence, not bureaucracy
- Providing the CFO with a monthly spend dashboard covering actuals, forecast, savings pipeline, and renewal schedule
- Developing category strategies for the top five spend areas, starting with SaaS and professional services
- Managing vendor risk and third-party risk in partnership with Security and Legal
- Partnering across Finance, Technology, Legal, and ELT

- Genuine category depth in SaaS, tech, or professional services — and a track record of either building or materially rebuilding a procurement function

- Strong financial fluency: you can build a business case, talk TCO and NPV with a CFO, and translate analysis into vendor decisions
- Methodical follow-through: you track things, finish things, and don’t need chasing
- Familiarity with modern AI-native procurement tooling (we use Omnea; experience with Coupa, Vendr, or Zip is useful)
