About the opportunity
We’re looking for a strategic and innovative Freelance Senior Art Director to work alongside our in-house creative agency, Hero Collective, on a 4-month engagement – servicing our key markets including ANZ, UK and Canada.
You’re a proven creative leader who has mastered their craft (design, video, or art direction) and evolved into strategic campaign thinking. You possess a sharp eye for effective marketing creative – you know what makes a cut-through campaign, what resonates on social, and what stops someone mid-scroll.
You appreciate big brand moments just as much as always-on performance creative. You understand that a killer OOH idea requires different thinking than a high-converting paid social asset, and you are comfortable creating both.
As Employment Hero is an AI-first business, AI tools are at the core of your workflow, and you will model smarter, faster production methods throughout our go-to-market projects. You are curious and eager to use your creative talents to help us with our mission “to make employment easier and more valuable for everyone on earth”.
You will
- Own the creative concepting and visual direction across integrated campaigns: OOH, TVC, paid social, organic, video, email, and digital.
- Seamlessly take campaigns from concept through to execution. This means shaping strategy while staying hands-on in the process – building references and moodboards, defining briefs, storyboarding, generating content with AI, and meticulously reviewing final executions. You’re in the work, not above it.
- Lead the thinking for performance media, specifically understanding what drives results in paid social and shaping creative to maximize those outcomes.
- Use AI tools (Higgsfield, Eleven Labs, Claude, Suno) fluently in your day-to-day to deliver outputs, demonstrating smarter, faster creative workflows. .
- Act as a senior creative voice, bringing fresh ideas, maintaining exceptional standards of craft, and closely collaborating with internal teams and global partners to deliver our go-to-market projects.
- Bring your own efficient workflows and production methods to deliver quality work at pace.
- Present and rationalise creative concepts clearly to stakeholders, taking feedback well to consistently move projects forward.
- Stay ahead of emerging tools, platform trends, and the benchmark for great creative today.
What you’ll bring
- 6+ years in design, video, or a craft-based creative discipline, that has evolved into art direction and integrated campaign thinking across all media channels (OOH, TVC, paid social, organic, video, digital, and email).
- A strategic storyteller with deep understanding of performance marketing creative: paid social formats, content testing, and a sharp eye for what cuts through.
- AI-fluency, with hands-on experience in image generation, video generation (Higgsfield, Runway), and ideation tools (Claude, ChatGPT), and real finished work to prove it.
- Strong design fundamentals: typography, composition, colour, layout, and photography direction. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma. Bonus: After Effects, Premiere Pro.
- A collaborative partner who shares ideas generously and provides expert guidance on creative execution.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment: agile, adaptable and able to ship high-quality work quickly.
- Open to client feedback and collaborative iteration to ensure the final output hits the mark.
Engagement terms
This is a freelance engagement; you will be contracted as an independent contractor (ABN required).
A portfolio is required.
