We’re on the hunt for a switched-on Payroll Officer to join our HR team in Richmond, Melbourne on a part-time basis.
The Role
This is a standalone payroll function with real ownership. You’ll be the trusted subject matter expert on payroll across our group, responsible for the accurate and timely end-to-end processing of pay for approximately 150 employees across Australia and New Zealand.
Working across Employment Hero (AU) and PayHero (NZ), you’ll ensure our people are paid correctly, on time, and in full compliance with all relevant legislation, awards, and employment agreements.
Genuine flexibility: 20 hours per week with the freedom to set your own schedule- hours can be worked across 3 or 4 days, depending on what works for you. Hybrid working arrangements also available, so you can mix time in our Richmond office with working from home.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Processing accurate end-to-end weekly pay runs across AU and NZ- including overtime, penalty rates, allowances, commissions, leave, terminations and back pays
- Managing STP Phase 2 reporting, IRD payday filing, PAYE, KiwiSaver, ESCT, superannuation
- Handling workers’ compensation (AU) and ACC (NZ) reporting and reconciliations
- Acting as the first point of contact for employee payroll queries- responding promptly, professionally and with empathy
- Partnering with People & Culture on the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding
- Preparing payroll journals, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and producing reports for Finance and leadership
- Identifying and implementing process and automation improvements across the payroll function
- Staying current with legislative changes across both jurisdictions and applying them proactively
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- 3–5+ years’ experience in an end-to-end payroll role, ideally across both Australia and New Zealand
- Hands-on experience with cloud payroll platforms — Employment Hero and/or PayHero highly regarded
- Solid working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation: Fair Work Act, NES, Modern Awards, STP Phase 2, super, PAYG and state Payroll Tax
- Working knowledge of NZ payroll legislation: Holidays Act 2003, Employment Relations Act, PAYE, KiwiSaver, ESCT and IRD payday filing
- Confidence interpreting and applying Modern Awards
- Strong numerical accuracy and a track record of delivering pay runs on time and error-free
- Intermediate Excel skills
- Excellent communication skills- able to explain payroll matters clearly to non-specialists
- High level of discretion, integrity, and ability to handle sensitive data with care
Nice to Have
- Certificate IV in Payroll Administration, Diploma in Payroll Management, or equivalent
- Experience in multi-site, multi-brand environments- hospitality, FMCG, retail or manufacturing
- Exposure to payroll/HRIS system implementations, migrations or process improvement projects
- Familiarity with rostering and time-and-attendance platforms
