Empirical Solutions is seeking an experienced Systems Project Manager to lead the sustainment, governance, and enhancement of critical ICT and engineering systems within a complex, high-assurance environment.

This role is ideal for a qualified project professional with a strong background in Defence or government capability management, who thrives on driving collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement in system delivery and sustainment.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Systems Project Manager, you will:

  • System Sustainment and Governance
  • Manage lifecycle activities, including change proposals, security accreditation, and configuration control
  • Ensure compliance with governance, policy, and assurance frameworks
  • Oversee system sustainment activities and maintain alignment with enterprise strategy and operational expectations

Project and Financial Management

  • Oversee procurement, contracting, and financial management activities
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and delivery milestones
  • Support the development and delivery of enhancement proposals, feature updates, and issue resolutions

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams to ensure aligned outcomes
  • Provide expert advice and reporting to leadership teams to support strategic decision-making

Documentation and Reporting

  • Develop and maintain project management documentation, including plans, schedules, and performance reports
  • Track system performance against KPIs and report on outcomes and improvements
  • Prepare briefings and updates for program leadership

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from professionals who bring:

  • 7–10 years’ experience in project management within Defence, government, or complex technical environments
  • Strong understanding of system sustainment, lifecycle management, and capability integration
  • Proven ability to plan, monitor, and control complex technical projects from inception to delivery
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to solve complex problems and balance competing operational priorities

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, ICT, or Engineering
  • Certified membership with the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) or equivalent
  • PRINCE2 or PMBOK certification highly regarded
  • Eligibility for a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

You’ll be highly regarded if you also bring:

  • Familiarity with procurement frameworks and government project management standards
  • Experience working with Defence or similar technical environments
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth procurement, regulatory, and compliance frameworks
  • Exposure to agile delivery or hybrid project methodologies
  • Experience collaborating with prime contractors and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and integrated capability management
