Description

Senior ER & IR Adviser/Consultant

Effective HR is a modern HR and Industrial Relations consultancy supporting hundreds of Australian businesses through both our dedicated Project Team and our subscription-based HR Partner model.

Our HR Partner model offers a premium service that is deliberately different from the typical high-volume advisory model. We prioritise quality over quantity, taking the time to understand each client’s business and provide considered, commercially sound advice rather than rapid fire transactional responses. Our goal? To build long-term partnerships based on genuine value, where clients choose to stay with us because of the quality of the service we deliver, not because they are locked into lengthy contracts or attracted by unsustainable discounts.

As clients continue to see the value in our HR Partner service, we are looking for a strong ER/IR-focused adviser or consultant who wants meaningful work, real responsibility, and long-term growth.

What We’re Looking For

We are not seeking someone with decades of broad HR experience.

We are seeking someone with:

  • 3-5 years of targeted ER/IR experience
  • Strong exposure to Award interpretation and compliance
  • Experience researching and interpreting employment related legislation including the Fair Work Act

Experience drafting employment contracts, policies, and written advice

  • Experience in an employer association, union, legal practice, or ER-heavy environment, and/or degree level qualifications in HR, Employment Relations, Law or a related discipline, will be highly regarded.
  • This role would suit someone ready to join our HR Partner division in its formative stage – contributing meaningfully to its growth while building their own long-term career pathway within the business.

The Role

As part of the end-to-end support you provide to our clients, you will be called upon to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice in areas such as:

  • Award coverage and interpretation
  • Managing poor performance, misconduct and grievances, and
  • Requirements under the Fair Work Act, Fair Work Regulations, and other employment legislation
  • Alongside this, your drafting skills we be paramount as you prepare:
  • Tailored employment contracts and HR policies
  • Compliance reports, and
  • Comprehensive written advice notes.
  • We don’t need you to know every provision of every award – we just need you to know where to look to find the answers and ensure the advice you provide is based upon sound research and professional judgement.

Who You Are

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is ready to take ownership of their own matters and step up to establish themself as a trusted partner and adviser.

We would love to hear from you if you are:

  • Experienced in ER/IR matters including performance management, misconduct and award interpretation
  • Professional and composed in all client interactions
  • Support-focused — you care about practical outcomes, not just technical answers
  • Confident providing advice within your capability, and wise enough to seek guidance when required
  • Structured in your thinking and documentation
  • Naturally curious — you research thoroughly before responding
  • Detail-driven and committed to getting it right
  • Confident interpreting legislation and awards

What We Offer

  • Flexibility in hours – while we are looking for a minimum commitment of 4 days per week, we can be flexible on daily start/finish times to suit your outside commitments, and can also offer a standard full time 9-5 role if that’s what you are looking for
  • Fully remote working model
  • Attractive salary

If this opportunity aligns with your career direction, we would love to hear from you.
