At Eating Disorders Queensland (EDQ), we believe recovery is not just possible; it is meaningful. We are looking for a Carer/Key Support Coach—Lived Experience to join our collaborative and passionate team. This is more than a role; it’s an opportunity to transform the journey for carers and key supports, using your lived experience to support others.

In this role, you will offer meaningful, recovery-focused engagement grounded in your own lived experience of supporting someone with an eating disorder. Through evidence-informed coaching, skills development, and empowering information sessions, you will walk alongside carers to build hope, resilience, and connection, helping them feel supported, informed, and connected to a broader community.

ABOUT US:

Eating Disorders Queensland (EDQ) is a state-wide, community-based not-for-profit organisation.

We support both individuals who are living with an eating disorder, their carers, loved ones, and key support people.

Support options include therapeutic and psychosocial support for individuals, coaching, and community connection for carers.

EDQ also provides early intervention opportunities with community education events focused on creating healthy relationships with food and our bodies.

We are passionate about eradicating weight stigma and diet culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver intentional coaching to carers and key supports, drawing on the lived experience of caring for and supporting a significant other.

• Apply Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Strategies, and/or Single Session Family Consultation frameworks

• Maintain appropriate boundaries, ethical standards, and informed self-disclosure

• Coordinate and facilitate carer skills workshops, peer mentoring groups, and one-on-one support

• Provide accurate information about eating disorders and recovery pathways

• Participate in EDQ’s peer mentoring and carer education programs

• Engage in community education and advocacy events

• Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical teams across Queensland

• Maintain timely and accurate case notes and reporting within the client management system

• Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and professional development

• Contribute to service development, evaluation, and innovation

To be considered for this position, you need to respond to the Key Selection Criteria (max 2 pages) below:

  • Lived experience of supporting a loved one through an eating disorder recovery journey
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and engagement capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with empathy and clarity around the eating disorder recovery process
  • Awareness of carer needs, peer support boundaries, and wellness strategies
  • Familiarity with intentional peer support frameworks and strengths-based practice
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Motivational Interviewing, RAVES, and solution-focused techniques
  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced team

Desirable

  • Qualifications in Peer Work, Public Health, Allied Health, Mental Health, or Human Services
  • Training or experience in delivering peer support, coaching, or psychoeducation
  • Understanding of the eating disorder service system and stepped care models
  • Previous experience in delivering community education or group facilitation

Applicant must possess or obtain the following:

• Valid and current driver’s license

• Queensland Working with Children Check (‘Blue Card’)

• Queensland ‘Yellow Card’ Application for criminal history screening

All positions offered by EDQ are conditional on recurrent funding from the Qld Government. Therefore, EDQ offers fixed-term contracts that are in line with funding timelines.
