Doncare is a community-based not-for-profit organisation supporting individuals and families across Melbourne’s Inner East. Our op shops play a vital role in funding our services while providing welcoming, inclusive retail spaces for our community.
We are seeking a Retail Relief Assistant Manager (Level 5 – Retail Award) to provide leadership coverage across our op shop network on Fridays and Saturdays.
This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced retail leader who enjoys variety, autonomy, and working with purpose.
About the role
As the manager-on-duty, you will provide operational leadership across multiple Doncare op shop locations, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-performing retail environments during peak trading periods.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the senior on-site leader during allocated shifts
- Opening and closing stores, cash handling, and security oversight
- Supervising and supporting volunteers to deliver excellent customer service
- Managing day-to-day operational issues and incidents independently
- Maintaining merchandising, presentation, and retail standards
- Rotating between stores based on operational need
About you
You are an experienced retail supervisor or assistant manager who:
- Has strong retail operations and cash-handling experience
- Is confident supervising and supporting people on shift
- Can make sound decisions independently in a fast-paced environment
- Is reliable, calm, and solutions-focused
- Enjoys working across different locations and teams
- Experience in a not-for-profit or volunteer-based environment is desirable but not essential.
What we offer
Part-time role: 13 hours per week (6.5 hrs Friday & 6.5 hrs Saturday)
Please note: Saturday hours may initially commence at a reduced level during the onboarding or transition period, with a planned increase to full hours as operational requirements stabilise.
Additional hours may be offered by mutual agreement during periods of leave, vacancies, or peak trading
